5k rev Issue

  MK2 172 FF
So following on from THIS THREAD below is a list of things that have been tested. Its been to a guy near me that has a very good reputation and has done some work on the 197 7-speed sequential gear boxs.

Its been on the dyno for live reading and had the following ruled out/replaced/tested.

brake pedal switch replaced
spark plugs checked and tested
HT leads checked and tested
Coil Pack checked and tested
fuel pump inside the fuel tank checked and tested
fuel pressure under load checked and tested
timing checked and tested
its not got a misfire
the only thing that is not normal is that on the reader the percentage of speed shows 136% instead of 100% or less
injectors checked and tested
on the rollers it 'flys' past 100bhp which rules out the CAT been blocked and fuelling issues

He has told me its like the car is mapped to do this (mapped to go slow) however, if you gun it from the start it stops at 5k but if you wind it up under light throttle it goes past the 5k. it also doesn't do this in 5th gear (tested on the rollers not the road). Ive only had the car three weeks and the guy that sold it to me seemed very genuine and drove a very hard bargin over the price, it had been serviced regulary by the dealer of specialist so its not like its been neglected or played with as it was completely standard. the only thing i have done to it after the problem has started was fit and ipod cable and some new suspension. So the next stage is to get one of his mates that works for Renault to stick it on another machine and test it further. Obviously now the cost is starting to build up now and im wondering if this is worth perusing or not. So i'm looking for some people with this problem to shout up and tell me of your experiences and maybe suggest things that haven't been tested.

Noob here - but it sounds like the VVT isn't working to me...?

Has this been ruled out? Reasonable suggestion IMO.

And what does this mean? 'the percentage of speed shows 136% instead of 100% or less'
Engine speed (I assume) or vehicle speed and 136% of what?
If the ecu is reading the engine speed at 136% of the actual value, it'll be hitting redline (normally around 6.8k?) at 5krpm.

Remap could possibly cure this or similar action (ie. new ecu), but expensive, last resort maybe?

yes the VVT kicks in at alot lower revs 1800 or 2500 iirc
the engine speed of 136% you suggested does actually make sense but i can continue to rev over 5k but its very very slow and abit jerky
the mechanic has suggested that a remap may cure this but thats £300+ i haven't got and don't really want to spend as the car was only meant to be a run around fora year then potential track car if funds and new job allowed.

How about trying another standard ECU? Make sure it has the codes or whatever is needed. :( Running out of things it could be really...

from what i have read the ECU's are coded to each car so that would be a no go unless i got a virginised one and tried that but that would be the price of an ecu, unlocking it, virginising it, etc...
