5th Gear speed at certain rpms on a 2002 172 ff

I was heading home from work today and was just wandering what everyones is getting rpm wise at certain speeds in 5th gear ?
:S Outta Curiousity......


70MPH I WAS IN BETWEEN 3250 RPM AND 3500RPM
80MPH I WAS IN BETWEEN 3750 RPM AND 4000 RPM


Is this about right in a standardish 172ff ?

I only have a direct cold air feed to my standard airbox and panel filter and a cat back Remus exhaust system...

The figures from the Renault 2002 brochure are;

1st - 5.3mph per 1000rpm
2nd - 8.7mph per 1000rpm
3rd - 12.3mph per 1000rpm
4th - 15.8mph per 1000rpm
5th - 20.4mph per 1000rpm

So 70mph is 3431rpm and 80mph is 3922rpm.

These are dependent on the gearbox, and will always be the same whatever you do to the engine.

What evreyone else getting ?

My Road Angel was reading 67/68mph @70mph and 77/78mph @80mph.

So speedo's not as much out as i thought it'd be....

As my last car was a Polo Gti and its speedo was out about 5---7mph and about 10mph when flat out

Ive changed my for an 8 speed, Helps with noise levels at high speed lol

Aye, even with the handbrake on, no oil pressure, a flat battery!



I did that too and had my mate convinced it could do 8000rpm and 160!

Weird how the gearchange light shows up orange.

mines 3500rpm at 70mph exactly.... someone told me on here its what the gearbox is geared for on a standard engine (1.2 16v)

pmsl.... yeah, ive fooled a mate with that once... for a few seconds. Numpty. Its odd how it shows up ornage when its usually green. Maybe it just backlight from the other lights.

What colours you 172 mate ? May have seen you around.

Figs in the brochure for 1.2 16v 2002 are 4.7, 8.4, 11.9, 15.3, 19.2.

So that seems right (if you have a mk2, dunno if/when they changed the box ratios).

Black. Totally standard. Waxed but usually covered in dust (believe it or not I got a letter from the council telling me my street is a wind trap). Usually round the east of the city (live off Leith Walk) except visits to Renault Sighthill. Who have improved vastly recently.

Just take a picture of the one dial on your phone you can keep it up for weeks!

Hold down the button on the end of the wiper stalk, and turn on ignition.

It all goes crazy lol

Its just a systems check thype thing. Shows up error codes in the display.

hold in your trip computer stick button (button on the end of the stick) and turn your car on. to turn it off simply turn off your car
