5W30 oil?

i had to top up my oil in an emergency, and all the BP garage had, was Magnex 5W30 oil...so i got that and put it in...

but people all over the site are saying 5W40 to be used? would this oil i put in cause any problems?

I think i use 5w30, and i think thats what it says in the book mate?

Read your manual, should tell you.

well yeh - the numbers are to do with the viscocity and operating temp i think...

The 5w being the temp related info - meaning it will work at very low temps, and the 40 being the oils viscocity at a certain temp. i cant remember what oil temp its done at. Basically, 30 is more runny that 40 at high temps.

i think thats how it works

the book says 5w30 (for all petrol engines) then goes on to say

Other grades of oil can be used.. where it says 5w40...

so i guess it recommends 5w40 and 5w30 hehehe, not very clear if u ask me ahaha

put it this way... if ure only roading it its not gonna matter.
If u track it occassionaly, well, i dont htink its still gonna matter, but 5w40 should be more suited.

It will be fine.

If your bothered both numbers are the weight or viscosity of the oil at 100C. The first is the viscosity of the oil at low temperatures but at the 100c rating, the second is simply the viscosity at 100c. a 0w oil is a 5w but with a lower pour point.

0w30 is recommended up until 30c ambient is reached, this is not often breached in the UK!
