6 hours at the garage. :o(

But on the bright side the car is all done.

I arrived at the dealers at 8.15 this morning to get the exhaust, alarm, and knocking done. As well as getting them to check the brakes and remove that stupid plastic engine cover which also rattled.

Apparently they couldnt do anything until the exhaust had cooled, so that was an hour wasted!! Kwik Fit manage to remove hot exhausts though!!! GET SOME GLOVES!!!!!

I explained to the RTE what I wanted doing to the engine mount to stop the knocking, he said hed give it a go as nothing else had worked. So I explained what Faz posted here: http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=127495&PagePosition=1Link They carried out the work and guess what........it actually fixed it. :D Three times they tried before. Theyve asked me to call them and let them know if it sorted it.

Anyway, they removed the engine cover and chucked it in the boot and even washed the car as they couldnt believe how dirty it was.

By this time it was 12.30 and I was starving. Luckily they were done, so they pulled the car around to the front and off I went. Within seconds I noticed the exhaust was now rattling more than ever, so I got out to have a listen and it was making a terrible noise, and to top it off both back boxes werent pointing back, but off to the right and not at all central to the exits in the bumper.

So back I go not a happy man.

Come 2.15 and the car is once again done, only this time correctly.

Im f*****d off that Ive wasted half a day there, but also happy that its now back to how it should be. Except for the 3 beeps from the alarm which I dont give a toss about anymore.

Alls well that ends well then matey. I gave up on the three beeps a long time ago. It doesnt seem to follow any pattern - it hadnt done it for months until yesterday, then beep, beep, beep just after I locked it. Weird.

its great feeling when your car gets sorted out its like its a new car again (well for about an hour anyway)

im confused as to why they cant fix the 3 beeps thing mate, as i said mine went in for it and it got sorted

They cant work it out and neither can Cobra. They carried out the fix, but as mine is extremely random it may not be that. I dont care, at least its back in once piece, minus the engine cover. LOL

Looks like they did a decent job rejoining the exhaust too, although Im sure my exits are a bit further back.

He agreed the way Renault do there exhausts as 1 piece that has to be cut is just stupid. He said they had real trouble cutting it as its so thick!

Arrrrrrrrlrighty then!!!

Glad you got your knocking sorted, as well as the rest of the problems.

My alarm beeps 3 times, but I put that down to me setting it too quickly after shutting the door.

Is yours the factory fitted alarm?

Lee

  BMW M2C

Its the one all UK Dealer supplied cars have yes. They are Cobra alarms fitted at the import centre.

Mine always beeps when I set it at home, in the garage after only using the drivers side door, if I get stuff out the boot first its fine.

I did explain that to them yes, thats also what Cobra told them to try last time. Apparently mines the only one out of 4 theyve done that hasnt worked. LOL

I might take mine in then for them to have a look. But it doesnt beep everytime, its very rare in fact, so if they cant make it beep then theyll say theres no problem.

Gordon Lambs will be sick of seeing me!!!!

Thats exactly what theyve been saying about mine, and the knocking noise.

I was really disappointed today, my favourite service desk woman wasnt in so there was no one to make me coffee.

Sod it, it happens that rarely that I suppose I could put up with it when on the off chance it does beep. I just wait about 3-5 seconds before I lock the car after shutting the door (drivers).

so how did they fix the exhaust ??, do they cut it then ?, mines booked in next tuesday for new centre and headlamp washer, god only knows what damage they will cause

They did fix the exhaust. They cut the centre section out and put a new piece in its place.

Yes, its cured it now. I dont know mate, it sounded like the join. Apparently they re cut it and fitted it again from scratch to fix it.

What exactly did they do the engine mount? As Ive said in the other thread I only really have room for 1mm of movement in one direct.

Did you see what exactly they did to yours?

Lee

Ill have a look later to see if I can see any difference. I just asked them to make sure that the entire thing was square, and maybe they could add some packing of some sort.

I was sleeping in the showroom while they did the work!

  Yaris Hybrid

How much do these mounts move when you accelerate and brake? Someone in the other thread said they had a 5mm gap between the rubber blocks and the black surround. Surely the engine doesnt move by so much that the blocks knock against the surround?

If it does move by 5mm then I wonder what happens with my 1mm gap? Wonder if the 4 bolts holding down the black surround are not tight enough and so the black surround itself is shifting and knocking on its four retaining bolts?

  Ford Fiesta

Toypop yeah it cant be far off 5mm on mine, I will try get some packing and see if it stops the noise, as you say its a long way to move is that!

glad its all sorted for ya Lee, wouldnt be happy about em cutting my exhaust apart but if its sorted your problem fair enough. My alarm has only ever beeped 3 times once, cant even get it to do it if I try now???

Liam, its the only way to remove an exhaust on any Renault car. Unless you are prepared to spend ages moving rear wishbones, and the bumper. All dealers cut the exhaust which is why they have those collars in stock to join them. It was exactly the same on the 172.

  Ford Fiesta

so when i need a new exhaust in so many ever years, they will have to put it on in pieces even though its one unit now?

  Ford Fiesta

stupid, do all renault garages fit them this way?? how long will my standard exhaust last before I have to take it in to be bodged? lol
