8.2mpg when nailing the 182....

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
Wow...

Never seen that before, reset the trip computer just before pulling out onto a national speed limit road...hammering it through 1st, 2nd and 3rd....at one point i saw a figure as low as 8.2mpg although i must stress it was hard to keep it that low i didn't imagine the 182 using anywhere near that level of fuel when booting it.

Having said that my average is now back up to 32mpg so all is good. :)

Just thought id make a little post about it :)

The trip isnt as acurate as one might think mate.

Harsh accelaration will throw the comp all over the place matey!

When I reset mine, it went from 0.01 - 0.02 - 0.03 and so on.

Think it needs to travel a few miles before sorting itself out.

^ Iirc it needs 3/4 of a mile to sort itself out & give a reading.

As for only getting 8 mpg from a 182 under harsh acceleration, somethings not quite right imo and average of 32 mpg isn't that good either.

32's alright if it's all town driving and short distances. My average is between 29 and 31 mot of the time, up to 40ish on motorway journeys.

my journey to work consists of driving up the a34 in staffordshire for anyone local which has far too many roundabouts and speed limit changes, goes something like 60, 40, 50, 60, 40, 60, 40. Also its often slow moving traffic. So thats the reason for the fuel consumption. Put the car on a good run and it will sit around 40mpg.

35mpg is about my average!

8?? LOL! Defo think the comp was setting itself up! Think the lowest genuine mpg Ive managed to acheive was about 26?

As said, trip computer isnt accurate, the only real way to find out roughly is fill it to the gunnels and then calculate mileage.

I usually see 12mpg when foot to the floor in the LCR. Average 32mpg if I'm taking it easy :)

  Monaco RS Clio 172
lowest my 172 has displayed on the comp is 24.. usually average driving sits around the 34 mark... but if I'm having a skint week and taking it easy, I can push that upto 40 mpg especially motorway.

if I really am trying to save some juice, I can get that to 42 mpg relatively easily but changing at 2.5k in every gear.

at the "most economical speed" (or so they say - 55ish) over 5 miles on the m25, I saw 47mpg displayed for a long period... sitting at 55 with my foot just touching the pedal. :)

can be done if you want to really save petrol! it is almost getting into diesel levels! fookin 2 litre sports car!

Damn how are you guys getting much higher than me?

I average 26-28MPG... normal driving, put my foot down very rarely tbh. Always town driving though. Do you think I've got a problem? Never ever seen the magic 30 on my display :dead:

a sierra cosworth i sold a couple of years ago used to only do 12 to 14mpg round town, never more than 17 even on a run, used to do about 190 miles on 75 quids worth, and that was before petrol was a quid plus a litre.

Yeah but that's a real car lol.

I normally expect an average of about 38 mpg with my usual cautious driving on mixed roads. If you put your foot down expect to see it drop dramatically though.

my trip computer usually reads about 32~ or there abouts.

If I reset it when I am being conservative on the motorway it goes up to 45ish and when i drive normally with a bit of speed here and there its only really gone down to 28-29ish but these numbers are over quite long periods allowing it to average out a bit

Maybe a lambda or similar is off mate.

Getting an average of 34mpg on the commute, and at least 25 when out hooning.

refueled mine yesterday, was reading 37.5

put 24 quid in to fill it to the brim at 107p per litre and the car had done 180 miles since being full last, that works out at 36.7mpg so the onboard meter isn't massively out.

It's not bad once you have a few miles under your belt, but until it sorts itself out, it'll throw out an inaccurate reading.

I'm with you kayzee, I think that's due to traffic and just constantly stop starting + short commute journeys though..
On a motorway it manages about ~34 MPG.

All of you using super unleaded? Notice much of a difference in fuel economy as opposed to the standard fuel?

averaging 23-24 mpg urban at present in my mini, think my 182 used to be around 28 urban. approx 30-33mpg combined compared to 27 mpg combined in the mini.

  172 exclusive & 306 gti6
my 172 says i get 46.2 on a steady run 65 mph is this true ?? its complety standard . i cant believe how good these engines are on fuel compaired too my gti 6

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Yeah if you're driving around 60-65 then you should be getting 45-odd to the gallon I'd expect.

  Tangoed Works
i think the clio mpg indicators over read slightly. in mileage terms i used to get between 60-70 miles from a tenner. my new car gets about 60 to a tenner, but states the average mpg at 23-34

Nope its very accurate 8mpg sounds realistic.

Trip is very accurate it based in fuel injection level from the ecu
can be done if you want to really save petrol! it is almost getting into diesel levels! fookin 2 litre sports car!
But drive a diesel like that you'll be over 60ish.

Realistic???

I highly doubt that, it also says that ive got 400 miles to a tank once filled it to the gunnels, Ive yet to see that happen.

Before car manufacturers release cars they drive them at 56mph with all the windows up, no one but the driver and a can of coke worth of petrol/diesel just so they can print attractive looking economy numbers in there fancy looking brochures.

I have to be honest these economy threads drive me mental.

Clio 172/182/197's were never designed with economy in mind, there supposed to get s**t fuel economy.

People that complain are better with diesels!:sleepy:
