8800GTS512 PhysX + GTX295 [PC hardware]

I've just learnt over on Overclock.net (not OCUK) that I can slam in one of my old 8800s and use it for dedicated PhysX. How awesome is that?? I'll be doing this as soon as I return home to s**thole UK, and shall report any findings.

Yes, this is very geeky but, if you don't like it, f**k off out of my thread and go have a w**k in your GF or something.

I doubt there'd be any but, it can't hurt, and will certainly take a load of the 295 in PhysX games. If nothing else, it just means I'm using one of my old 8800s to good effect.

My PSU would melt at the thought of running another card! Upgrade time again soon I think. :D

The only question is i5 or i7... but that is for another thread.

I'm surprised you didn't know about this before Roy.

Using an 8800GT* (For PhysX) and an ATI card. Now that's "new" news.

TBH Griffinator, it has crossed my mind many times. I had often wondered but never really bothered to check it out. I was browsing oc.net and noticed that thread.

It's still one card though Terry. The 295 is already standalone SLI. The 8800 would not be doing any rendering. No SLI invloved.

Fair play

I wouldn't like to run 2 cards in my rig, power supply doesn't have THAT much juice (550W Corsair)

Would games actually recognise and use the 8800 purely for the Physx part though? I know a lot of the newer games such as Unreal Tournament 3 and Operation Flashpoint 2 have the option to run hardware physx. But how would the game know not to use the 'potentially' superior hardware on the 295 and switch that form of calculation across to the 8800?

Was the 8800 the first nVidia with inbuilt Physx, btw?

The only games I know of atm that use this setup is Batman Arkham Asylum... Not too sure if there's any other games though?. I have heard that Nvidia with soon realise drivers that won't allow you to use ATI & Nvidia in SLI/Crossfire between the 2 different compaines.
