A call to V6 owners

  RS Megane 225Lux & RAV 4
I have a 2007 Meg 225 which is standard apart from a remap. I previously owned a Clio 182 so I am not new to Renaultsports. I am looking to change to a Phase 2 Clio V6 and I have £15k to spend so I feel that I should get a good car.

The question is, how practical are they, and how much do they cost to run? I have researched the tax, insurance and tyres etc, and that is all ok. The Meg only does about 25 to the gallon but I am not sure how that compares with the V6. Is it seriously more expensive to run?

Are there any V6 owners out there that would like to share their experiences?

(Thanks already to Big Peaches for his help with the quest):D

Search in Clio discussion, I'm willing to bet it's been covered a minimum of 3 million times.

not being funny, but www.v6clio.net is pretty good for all that.

big service is £800 for all belts and stuff. other than that 17mpg-20mpg if you rally them hard

  LY V6 with Recaros
I drive mine on a daily basis. I get about 22-24mpg round town, more on motorways. It lasts me quite a while though. I don't think it will be much worse that the 225 but it depends how it's driven. Cambelt service is a big expense, about £1000 but apart from that it isn't as expensive as people may think, it seems pretty similar to run as my 182. Parts are more but they seem to be pretty reliable, the only major issue is coils failing, but these are only about £20 from GSF.

As for practicality...it can be a bit hard work! Space doesn't really bother me, infact you can fit more in them than you think, I managed to go away for a long weekend to a carshow with me and my bf's luggage in the back net, 2 folding seats behind my seat, bits in the boot and some car cleaning stuff under the bonnet. Shopping can just be chucked in the passenger footwell or in the back.

But things like having to be careful where it's parked due to to massive sills which need lots of room to get out, having to do 3 point turns everywhere because of the pants turning circle, plus having to plan where you take it alot of the time because it can't go in multistory car parks over certain speedbumps and sometimes the front bumper scrapes on steep hills etc. None of this spoils the fun of ownership though, after a while you just get used to it! :D

ooOoooo! A V6 thread! :)

Where to start, runnin costs are avg really. i get about 17mpg in mine (Prely town driving) 30 can be had on long runs. 26 at 100mph on the autobahn's!

Other than that same costs as a 172/meg! Ensure the one you buy has had the cambelt done.

The car spks for itself, It's not the fastest car out there by a long run, but it is insatiable to drive! I love mine. Although not driven it since Oct.

no no! lol. Mine have done well tbh! Done alot of miles and seen a fair whack of track action. Still ok tbh!

I had an average of 36mpg after a 100 mile motorway journey 2 weeks ago. I got bored so pulled off onto some A roads, reset the trip and beaned it for the remaining 50 miles of my journey. It averaged 17mpg.

avereage driving seems to be low 20's.

As a single bloke, its perfectly practical as my only car. It has its moments being low and having a crap steering lock. But its more than worth the constant 3-5 point turns.

Mine has been running perfectly for about a year now and I'm getting 24 around town and 30 on a long run. Have it looked after by a proper v6 specialist garage and you'll be smiling for certain. A handy buyers guide.
