A diffrent drums to disks question

OK, I want to do my rear brakes following my conversion.
My question is?

Is it possible to just change the brakes over i.e. leave the rear axle on and just change the ends where the drums are for disks and calipers?

Or is it better to change the whole axe?

P.S I am also trying to get the hand brake set up to be hydro at the same time.

you can just change the stub axles ( bit the disc mounts on) but its easier to change the axle. 3 bolts and the shocks hold the axle on.

I remember a dude on here did it to his Mk2 Rsi he had a few probs with it, so went back to drums. I think it was Giles who was on here ages ago. He wrote a thread on it, it might be worth looking under his name for it.

stub axles guessing thats the square ish metal block on the ends.

Biggest problem is getting a full axle and its size for transport. Why I was thinking of just changing the drum part.

I can just change the rings over for the ABS.
Front is upgraded.
Its mainly for the the hydro hand brake setup as its better with disks than drums.
