A little boys dream!!

Its been a while since I posted on these hallow pages!! But I am back; and both to seek and offer advice - if that is possible!!??

The story begins... well a few years ago now; when I bought a 172 Cup. To say the car was a pleasure, and the most fun I have had in car is an understatement!! For nearly 4 years that little car held a place in my household fleet; nay a place in my heart.
Other cars came and went, as I got older, more supossed exotic cars arrived, an M3, a Tamora, eventually a 911 (996)!! None of these, and I mean none of these, were as much of a hoot as the 'little blue car'.

They are all gone, and the love of driving is on its last legs!! I am now in a sodding blue oval derv, just to bash out the miles. Broken by this communist gov, who likes to kick the s**t out of the petrol lover's. I find myself at a passe', I don't want to let the petrol in my vains dry out, I can't face spending a s**t load of cash on something that I don't know will satisfy... I want the 'little bue car' back!!!!

So my question or rather questions

1) Would you ever buy back your old car back or am I being a nutter?
2) If you would, and it was a cup, what should I be looking out for, as in problems with car? How can I make sure she is ok? i.e. If Mike172 is still out there, if I brought her to you, and said "make her like new" is it really possible??
3) If it was, is it going to cost the same amount as a small country just off Africa to do?What would I being looking at?
4) Can a car live forever?
5) Am i being a nutter?

Adivce:

If you are thinking about getting rid of the 'little blue car', think long and hard about it!! Sure there are faster, better specc'ed, even better all round cars out there!! But for stupid fun factor, that shocks and thrills in equal measure, and sticks two fingers up to those c**ts in the gov, I am not sure there are.

The last request of this long arse post; please, please, please help me regain my joy of driving.

G

A car can live forever but will get more expensive to make it live the longer time goes on. If you were going back to a Clio now, I would say get a Trophy.

Fantastic post!

And i very much agree with "Advice" section.....im beginning to think that nothing can replace my 'little blue car'!

Thanks Ollie, I will find my ol 'little blue car' and bring her home.

The Trophy, or though a fantastic car in its own right, would just not be the same as the one we had.

  Clio 182.
Awesome post!

I wonder if people can ever get over the loss of a Clio Sport! I was talking to my GFs dad last night, who traded his 172 Cup for an Evo 8 not so long ago, and you can tell by the way he talks about that car, the passion in his voice, that he misses it. In fact i think he wishes he'd kept it (i know his missus does!) as a daily driver.

If i was in your position mate, and you cant get your old car back, id go for a Trophy. Best Small Hot Hatch of the last 10 years, not dissimilar to the cup, but more lux.

As much as everyone harps on about the new 197, Cup etc, they have all lost the charm and personality the Mk2 has.

Yeah it may be "superior" in most area's but that doesn't make it more fun IMO.
And no....im not a bitter 172 Cup owner wishing i could afford a 197 Cup....hell i nearly bought one before Xmas.

Darn glad i didn't tho!

nice post mate, i really feel for you, i sold my first car (1.2 corsa0 to someone up the road and had to pass it every day for about 2 year, i was gutted! hope you find her!!!

I got a Fiesta Turbo at 20, it's alls I ever wanted, I worked hard, saved hard and loved it so much. Then the reliability issues crept in, instead of it being fun it was a financial burdon and I ended up looking for a modern equivalent that made me buy a Cup. I'm usually bored of cars within a few months but 8 months down the line it's still suprising people, still keeping me entertained and with a permanent driving grin on my face... and the end of the day- that's what it's all about.

It managed to match and almost outdo my childhood dream car of the Fiesta RS so it can't be too bad.

There's so many low mile- minters about, so if you feel the urge, go forth and spend- very much doubt you would regret it!

  RB 182 cup,astra sri
i am getting to the stage where i want something a bit faster etc. my obvious choice is going to be a mk2 v6.

although i am worried that any car i change to isnt going to be as good, i think the v6 would be better. although with the new budget, owning a 3litrre car isnt going to be cheap!!

should i stick with the cup and get coilovers better seats and all the things i have always wanted for it?

decisions!!

I well miss my 'little blue car' :(

I replaced that for a 182 with cup packs, that just never hit the spot for me.

Love my 197, but if i ever needed to free up some £££££ I would be in the market for another Cup with out question!!!!!

My first Renault was my 172 Cup after a lifetime with Pugs and Escorts. It really was a new lease of driving life for me....what a fantastic car...every trip like a Special Stage ;)

You could get another 172 Cup in good condition l'm sure. And if you want to keep it forever l'm also sure you could.Parts will wear but just replace them.Bodywork can be replaced also so live your dream :)

Good lad ;)

Its nice to get a positve post about RS Clios for once. The amount of negitive comments on here about them is depressing sometimes!!! Bang for buck nothing comes close imo. The grass isn't always greener lol

  clio 200 F4Rt
amazing the number of people on here that thought the 'grass was greener' then come back to a 1*2.

me included.

get hunting for a minter, and start enjoying driving again!

bang for buck, the clio's are awesome, i still miss my old 182.. traded it in for a VX220T and never really got on with it, sure it was faster, handled better, but it was almost boring to drive. All low down torque

I'm sure i would go back to another clio someday!

Lol, got you. My 1.2 16v is for sale again, girl friend is looking for one too im tempted to buy it back! Its done 3500 miles since I sold it!
This thread prompted me too look on autotrader and there it was!
