A Rather Pleasant Evening...

Well, that was a rather pleasant and unexpected surprise...

The other night, a friend invited me over to his parents place as they were holding a charity event with a few cars turning up for good measure. The event was to be held on their back lawn and, being fairly local to where I live, I wasn't going to turn down the opportunity! I wasn't sure what to expect and was one of the first to arrive. Soon after, an incredible array of cars started to roll in. Many of them were historic rally cars as my friend and his parents are all heavily into their rallying. Within a short amount of time, their back lawn was full of amazing vehicles - from a 103-year-old Sunbeam to classic Minis to, well, an assortment of wonderful metal.

This was all set against a backdrop of their beautiful home, with stunning views, the golden sun setting behind the hills, and a live band providing entertainment.

Probably one of the best car meets I've been to in a long time and raising a few quid for a local cancer centre, too. Fabulous! As was having a catchup with @Filters

Nice to see you mate, pleasure as always.
Was a great evening, both raffle winners too. Who’d have thunk it!

it’s a cracking little event, there’s always a tasty array of motors and a good atmosphere. For such a quiet little village too you wouldn’t expect it. Can’t say the neighbours enjoy it as much but sod them 😂

See you at CSF (Maybe!)

P.S those pesky VW Beetles get everywhere!

@SharkyUK

What a fantastic night out!!!

Do you happen to have any more pictures of the purple car in the first picture? It's a Gilbern Invader (made in Wales!) my dad had one years ago in that colour with a red stripe on a J reg.

Having a lawn big enough for a car meet is life goals.

Agreed. I've made a note to work harder for retirement! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, it's a beaut!

Not a pop and bang map or ‘locally hated’ window sticker in sight. What a great turnout!

Absolutely, mate! Chilled, respectful, and like a massive friendly family gathering!

Sadly not, fella. :( I spent so much time talking with folks that I didn't get as many photos as I'd hoped. So many great cars that I missed! I think the owner has 2 or 3 Gilberns which, as you say, were made in Wales. I've seen his car at another event but I'm not sure if I still have photos of it. I'll take a look later.

That looks like a fantastic little gathering, and what an amazing setting. How do we get an invite?😂

It's open to the public. Chap who hosts it runs the Historic Rally Car Register, they do a "bonnets up" evening once a year for charity.
£5 per car if you're displaying and a donation to the charity for each person who wants a look around.

Very handy for me as it's a two min walk home 🙏 four if distracted by a sheep.

Looks fantastic @SharkyUK , car looks incredible too. I really do love it.

I thought the same, and I’m now just sat wondering if we could make a new word… like one for a car meet where we don’t want ‘any of your type’? Just those like the above. It’d have to be a good and proper Tory name. Perhaps derived from a fox hunting term or something.

:ROFLMAO:Four minutes?! I timed you at 2.5 minutes! And how is Flossie doing? Asking for a mate. 👀

It was mate. I think it was more impactful as I had absolutely no idea what was going to turn up, hence the surprise. I might have to organise a little CS corner for next year! :ROFLMAO: There's a half-chewed bag of Wine Gums for the person who comes up with the best name for this sort of car meet... :ROFLMAO:
