so over the last week i decided to have a go at spraying the engine cover...having never done any spraying before i had no idea what to do.so down to halfords to get the wet n dry, primer and paint and let the fun begin...so here is the outcome, let me know what you think either good or bad but go easy as it is my first ever attempt

Looks good Ivan, cant see the peeling in the pics. Is that the same shade that Williams have?

Maybe try 3000 grit paper to sand it down.

i always get that once ive done spraying with the colour its so smooth and shiny and when i use laquer it either goes like that or as a matt effect, why??

Looks goot Ivan. Any pics of it fitted?

I stil dont know what colour to introduce into my bay. Blue does seem the obviousl choice with silver.

just waiting on the laquer to dry nicely then i will fit it...should be on in the next few hours as i finished it at lunchtime

Looks good. Dont suppose you've got any wider shots have you? So you can see how the blue contrasts against the silver wings etc?

not enough lacquer, you really need to soak it with thick wet coats, a light dust aint good enough because it almost dries upon contact, making it rough and matt, putting it on thick lets it find "itself" and settle before drying

Looks good mate, should have given me a shout, you have seen how much spraying i've done lol, looks like it needed a few more clear coats & could do with a run over of the G220 ;)

My mirror covers after they were painted & left to cure for 2 weeks

Then after some 3000 grit wet & dry a few runs over with the g220 using various products & pads

Be carefully when doing the thick clear coat mate, have seen it run very easily when doing it that way, just build up around 4 light coats allowing at least 15 mins before going over again, quick guide

Starting from scratch

* Using 1200 wet & dry go over every thing untill you can no longer see any gloss from the previous paint job

* Use 1500 grit wet & dry on the primer after waiting ATLEAST 24 hours, make sure the whole thing is smooth, no force should be needed just keeping running back & forth being carefull not to go through to the old colour

* Then lay down your colour & leave it to cure for ATLEAST 24 hours

*Using 1500 wet & dry carefully smooth it back being carefull not to go through tto the prime, key to this is just to take your time mate

* then lay down 3 light coats of clear allowing ATLEAT 15 mins between each coats then on you finnal 2 coats lay down thicker coats, to the point where the clear will look very wet

* leave for 2 weeks then cut back throught the over spray ;)
