ABS (Again!)

Im beginning to give up!

Its been down now 6 times to my local garage - and each time they say theres nothing wrong!

About 2 months ago my ABS light popped on on my Valver - so I thought - hmm bugger - switched the car off switched it on again - hey presto!

Until 2 hrs later that is!

It seems to be very irratic, theyve had it plugged in and they say the diagnostic is all ok but it will still come on. Its not just driving either it came on after 20 mins when i let it idle on my street.

About the same time I had this problem I had the passenger side wheel bearing done - Could this have had any effect?

Also I think i need new discs soon - would the light come on as a warning that I need new brakes? Im really stuck now as I dont feel safe in the rain when the light pops on when im braking! skid clunk smack!

Any help would be great!

Sorry to be a pain but surely someone on the forum has had a problem with their abs at some point?

Theres no way im going to sell the car, but likewise theres no way im gonna keep driving it like this!

Im stumped!

Im no help mate but just to let you know youre not on your own mine does exactly the same !! Try cleaning the ABS sensors behind each hub, not done mine yet but it could just be dirt if your diagnostic was ok. The ABS warning light wouldnt come on because your discs are low no [I dont think !!!] there is a different light for that. May be no help but I thought Id reply !

this will sound bizarre, but try slamming on the anchors and see if yopu lock up.

I had this problem in the willy, it was interrmittent and believe it or not, it was because both my back brake light bulbs had failed, one was due to slight water ingress, the garage sorted it with two new bulbs, check this before you go back in. The auto sparkie couldnt believe it, he reckons it was some renault safety thing to cut out abs when you had no brake lights!!!!!!!

all i can suggest is that when the wheel bearing was done they might have damaged the sensor on the hub,,,,,either that or the connection tube might not be re-connected properly.....but if youve had it in at renno i would have thought they would have found that fault.

but i do know people that have got a bit heavy handed when removing the old bearing & damaged the sensor, because when it gets old it seizes in there & its a bloddy nightmare to get it out & ends up breaking if you try to remove it

garyross - I had the same thought so I went over the tops (Ahhh Lancashire :)) Slammed on at about 60 and lets just say I nearly made a mess of a sheep in a nearby field!

Its back again today at Renault Specialists I found - theyre going to check and clean all the sensors again and double check the wheel bearing and while its there theyre going to stick a competition cambelt in as its nearly time anyway.

Thanks for all your suggestions

  Not a Clio

i went for a valver without abs cos id read about it being problematic, one less thing to worry about in a list of many
