ABS, Stop, Serv + Handbrake Lights

Wired up the 172 clocks to my Mk1 loom today, everything works (running 172 Ph1 Box Sensor) perfectly, apart from these lights showing up...

1. The ABS light wire on the connector (Pin 14 on red connector) is not even wired upto anything... What does it require to turn itself off? A 12v or an earth or something?

2. STOP light is illuminated, there is no wiring for it on the connector blocks itself, got to be something related to the ABS light?

3. SERV light is illuminated, related to ABS + Stop lights maybe?

4. Handbrake light is constantly illuminated, its connected to the handbrake switch but it just stays on (Manual says this is also used for brake fluid level warning, which it wont be getting a reading off as there is no level sensor connected) Im guessing that is why?

Pin 15 on the red connector is called 'Brake Fault Warning Light', im guessing all these faults are showing up because nothing is connected to this or the ABS light wire on the connector? Anyone had these lights on in general before?!

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

I don't know but what I do know is when I take out the abs fuse the abs light stop light hanbrake lift and service ought are all on

The ABS fault light is putting the SERV light on and the brake fault is putting the STOP light on so don't worry about those too much. I think the abs light needs grounding but don't quote me on it, as for the brake fluid level i'm not sure where that goes with the diagrams in front of me. If it goes to the abs computer then you'll to have a play with the brake fault pin and see which one takes it off, will be either 12v or a ground as the ph1 is pretty much all pre-canbus so have a play. You'll need to satisfy the ABS fault pin and the brake fault pin to get them to go off.

Have you got the 172 steering angle sensor in and wired?
Have you seen foxys car?

Have you seen foxys car?

Ish... lol

I know that I have those lights on and the reason is that my SAS is not working. I beleive if hes putting the 172 clocks in and its got the 172 lump/ecu then it will throw up these lights?

I'm sure he won't mind me stealing this pic but just to give you an idea

So I very much doubt he's got a s/a/s connected :D. Its and F4R'd Mk1 and he's after using the Ph1 172 clocks so just needs to get the lights off for cosmetic reasons.

i had all them lights on. probably a totally different situation but mine was the Solenoids in the abs unit. Needed a full new unit.

cool thanks ben.

Will try and earth it shortly see what happens, and play around with the brake fluid level light thing....its gotta be a case of 12v or earth....everything else works spot on

if the worst comes to the worst and i cant get them off il just remove the led from the board

If by removing the led from the board, it will still have it on the ecu ye? ..

might be bit who har here but my 1.2 16v kept gettin the Stop light come up, but before it happens after raggin it round country lanes etc the power seems to be limited and car was juddgering,

might need to resolve the issue rather than blank it off imo fella

I have no ABS, and the clocks arent even connected to the ECU in that sense.

The only wire coming from the ECU to the 172 clocks on mine is the rev counter (pin 70) and the flowdata for fuel consumption, everything else goes elsewhere...

The stop light is only on because the ABS + Brake warning light is on, which arent even wired upto anything, so they are on because the circuit isnt complete...

This might help if you cant find a wiring fix........

Snap the led's off the board like i did, quick and easy solution.

Handbrake light will still stay on. I fitted a new lamp elsewhere on the dash and broke that one too. Altho I dont think its needed for an mot?

Earthing the last two pins on the small connector turned the ABS, Serv and Handbrake lights off...

Although, the STOP light still remains. I tried earthing a few other pins (brake pad warning light, etc) but nothing seems to turn it off. What could be causing the STOP light to illuminate? There are no other warning lights illuminated on the dash

If no other red lights are on only thing I can think of is if it thinks the engine is stood, but you've got a rev counter wired in etc haven't you?

Yeah everything else works functionality wise (revs, speed, fuel, coolant, coolant warning etc), no other warning lights on the dash just STOP illuminated

Ive been through all the pins on the two pages for the clocks pindata and checked everything relevant is connected, but the light is still on, hmmmmmmmm

Shame I missed this thread earlier, as I've been through this myself... As you have now found out, earthing the brake fault pin gets rid of the ABS and Stop lights etc.

That should also have extinguished the handbrake light (which again goes to earth via the h/brake switch. It will also come on if the brake fluid level switch is disconected (on the car I joined the 2 wires to get rid of this light too. Not sure what you'll need to do to correct this though! :)

yeah, well my brake fluid switch isnt even connected (i dont have one), and the handbrake light works as normal (goes off when put handbrake down)....but the mystery is why is the STOP light on with no other lights, very odd

They are early Ph1 dials....

Ive just been out in it, the STOP light goes off with the handbrake light (ie when I put handbrake down)....but as soon as you apply the handbrake the STOP light comes back on?!

Oh, that would explain it then :)

I wasnt sure if the stop light was supposed to be on when stopped with the handbrake on or not....if its not the only other thing it could be is that brake fluid level thing which should be running off the same wire as the handbrake light

Dont remember my Mk2 doing it though, that just used to show the handbrake light alone... but that was a ph2 non sport... meh lol

Sorry for digging up such an old thread, but I'm in the same situation right now. Had ABS, SERV, brake and STOP lights illuminated. Hooked up the ABS wire to an earth and that fixed the ABS and SERV lights. Though, when I connect the brakefault wire to an earth, brake and STOP go off, but don't respond to the handbrake anymore either. Connecting the wire to a 12v causes the lights to stay on all the time as they do now and connecting it to the handbrake/brakefluid level causes the lights to work in the exact opposite way.
I'm completely clueless at the moment please help!

Sorry to dig up and old post but where is the ABS fuse please?

Today I was on a track day and fluids are fine and never had this issue before but few laps in I get the ABS and handbrake light come on. They then go off again come the next corner. Then braking again they come on again, once again next corner they go out or even before the corner and then back on again. Braking feels fine and can’t find any fault codes when reading the ECU.

I press on. Then I get the STOP light come on along with the ABS and hand break light. (May have had SERVICE too but that’s always on so can’t tell). Again nothing seems out the ordinary when braking?

Any suggestions?

On another note, not sure if related but then later on in the day while this is still going on the car coughs mid corner like I’ve hit the limiter. Continues on, 2 turns after the car goes into limp mode and cuts out as I pull off down the slip off the track. Restart and all is fine. I did find a code for this and this seems to be related to the O2 sensor
