Acceleration problem

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Pray, listen, to my tale of woe:

3 weeks ago last saturday I had been out in my '02 plate 172 Clio Sport. Done around an hours driving and parked up and went shopping. No problems.

Went back to the car an hour later and once starting the car up it immediately over-revved to about 3k revs.

Turn the ignition off and take out th car keys. Left it a few seconds and started it up again. The engined is now 'bubbling' over t around 700 revs instead of a steady tick over. Have to put my foot down to the floor to get the car rolling otherwise it stalls.

Having gotten the car moving I would put my foot to the floor, have a 3-4 second lag and then the power would come through.
Approach a set of traffic lights, brake, put the clutch down and the car stalls again.
Turning off on the slip road the engine cuts again.
No engine or warning lights come on.

Since then I have had the car in the local garage who have checked fuel injectors, carbeurators, compression rates, cambelt, all sensors. Cannot find the cause of this fault.
ECU sent of, has come back after 4 days and they cannot read anything from it, but when it wastaken out it appeared to have had a screw missing from its mounting.

Please, can anyone help me, or has anyone had any similar problems? I am at the point where I just want to walk away from the cursed thing!

Cheers.

pedal or throttle body.

the ecu has to be read in the car as the ecu doesnt have a fault logging system.

where are you based as im sure there will be a specialist near by.

Could be a lambda sensor or a sticky throttle? Try taking off the throttle body and give it a good clean!

I'm in Leicester. Think there's a place on Frog Island that does ECU testing, just got to get the damn thing down there without ploughing it into a lamp post. But is that really such a bad thing?

Seems like it might be the ECU, but keep being told that it can't be checked for various reasons. Is this nonsense or do I really have to buy and reprogram a new one?
Could it be anything else?

I've been back to the garage today. They think the throttle body is ok but would be happy to put a new one on to try it for £230! Only other thing is getting the ECU itself tested, which no-one appears to be able to do. ANyone got any more ideas as to what the problem can be before I shell out what I expect is a lot of money for nothing.

I have a 182 FBW throttle body in my shed. It had only done 10k miles before I swapped it for a cable throttle body.

You can have it for £50 delivered. Its only 4 bolts and a connector so you can easily fit yourself. PM me if your interested.

It sounds like overfueling.

The temp sensor is a common fault. Reading cold when the engine is hot and putting to much fuel in.

Does it happen when the engine is cold?
