Adding sub and shelf speakers to the 220 trophy, is it possible?

  Clio 220 trophy
Im stuck at home after being furloughed, so im running out of things to keep me occupied, then i remembered i have an old sub with 6x9 speakers that came out of my 197 just sitting in my back room. Id like to fit it into my 220 trophy but i was under the impression that the standard head unit suplied in that car would make it hard to accomplish. Am i right in thinking that without the bose stereo option the standard radio doesnt have what i need to fit it? I.e a control line out and settings in the menu to control the sub?

Don't fit the 6x9, sound coming from the rear end is just wrong in many levels.

The sub you can fit, you will just need a line level converter and tap into the rear speakers.

Or, your amp might actually have high level inputs so you can plug the rear speaker wires directly into the amp to get a signal

I always liked the sound they produced tbh, but maybe because i was younger and just liked loud music at the time.

I think my amp allows for speakers too, but im not that experienced at fitting subs, how will that affect how i can adjust the bass coming from the sub etc without the equalizer on the head unit? Ill take some pics of the amp i have and post them on here.

This is the amp i have, i think its running a 1000watt kenwood sub, but id have to remove it from the box to check the wattage

The connector on the left of the RCA input is the speaker level input, looks like it needs the adapter that would have been provided originally.

If you don't have this I would just purchase a line out converter and connect it to the rear speaker wires and use the RCA input on the amp.

In terms of adjustment, you won't have much, but you could use the front to rear fader to control the volume of the sub.

6x9s can be good speakers, but the issue is having them in the rear of the car just sounds crap. Music should be played in front of the listening position.

You wouldnt buy an expensive hi-fi system for your front room and put the speakers behind you..

Thanks for taking the time to help with this mate, i appreciate it, and yeah your right about the music coming from behind you. I wanted to change the speakers because the system in this trophy is shite. And to top it off renault make it so you cant replace or add to the existing head unit, which really pisses me off. The sat nav is useless and the music freezes at least once a week, sometimes wont play music for a full 24 hours. Its useless. Anyway thank again mate, ill give that a go and see how it sounds 👍

Why can't you replace the headunit? Pretty sure i've seen MK4s with aftermarket double dins

Because i think it controls the steering, throttle response and some other settings that i wouldnt be able to adjust if i bought and fitted a replacement, i could be wrong though, infact i hope i am. Because changing that stupid head unit would make that car so much better, i love the car, but hate the shitty system they chose to use

You got RS monitor?

Keep meaning to get it activated on my Rlink, but spose it's gonna have to wait now :(

Tbh i never use it, all i used it for when i bought the car was to change the throttle response to extreme, its only ever used now for the radio, if i didnt have it with the car, i wouldnt have bothered to get it afterwards. I just find it a pain, renault have started to add these built in sat navs and tied everything else into it so the system cant be customised, what the hell was wrong with the normal stereos that could be swapped out with no issues, the actual sat nav is bobbins, i have to use my phone anyway.

Yeah the satnav isn't brilliant. It does what it needs to do, but it's slow. I need to plug in and activate android auto, which I think will be a hundred times more useful

Mine has Bose, so although still not amazing, it's good enough to not need to upgrade

I just find that trying to add the postcode, or address can turn into a mish, its just easier to use my phone. Sorry for the dummy question, but im not aware of that android auto, is that on the system or a seperate thing?

Yeah no idea why the guy who bought this car from knew didnt add that option to it, or the akra exhaust, just seems to me that they should have been standard with this car anyways rather than optional extras, bit of a sly thing to do on renaults part but it is what it is

Akra and Bose was a must for me.

If you update your head unit to the latest firmware, you can then download a program called DDT4ALL. Then with the use of a WiFi OBD single you can activate android auto. There's a thread about DDT4ALL in here somewhere

Oh right, ill have a look for it, thanks

Since i got no akra with the car, im gonna just remove the mid box in the exhaust to make it sound a bit better, given the price of the akra. Tbh i could make a new exhaust for it myself but its effort lol
