Adjusting handbrake

Ok, so does any1 know how to adjust the handbrake?? i got a mk2 1.2 clio. its the most annoying handbrake EVER. th passengers in the back get an eye full it goes up so far!

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

possibly two types of adjustment if its a clio 2 phase 1

1,unclip the handbrake lever trim at the front and you will see a threaded rod with a 10m nut on it on the passenger side of the handle. tighten up this nut.

or

2,remove the exhaust heatsheild above the rear of the centre section. held on by four 10m bolts or four 20 torx screws. you will see a threaded bar with a cable bracket on it and a 13m nut. tighten up this nut.
