to be honest not great pics and they dont really do our efforts justice.

Just started with Meguiars NXT, as wanted someting simple to start with. Gonna look into other options such as meguiars three step....

But thats dedication doin it until 10pm. (more pics in other marques but have tried to keep this on topic for this subforum)

lol @ daze and SCPM

A PC is a Porter and Cable polisher random orbital polisher. Can see what all the fuss is about now. its awesome. effortless, appart from the vibration which makes your hands go numb after abit, so is good if you can take it in turns.

Gald your up and running - You will get used to the vibrations. Some times messing about centering the pad more also helps.

You may get more control not using the handle, also allows you to bear down on the machine more when removing some swirls.

jealous???? haha...

Cheers for tips r-jay.... is hard with the civic as the panels seem softer than the clio, so didnt wanna put too much pressure on. was a learning exercise and will feel more confident in the future. wot setting do you usually use?? we only used 2. (the pic is not actually a normal shot, ben was just avoidin getting a mugshot. lol)

You need to but a fair amount of pressure on the machine when polishing with it, start to push down on the head till the motor starts to bog down, lift back up so the machine goes back to speed and that will let you know how much pressure to use. When using polishes I spread it around at speed to then crank it up to 5 or 6 to remove swirls.

Using a sealant like the NXT you did, I would use the blue finishing pad rather than the green polishing pad, as it is not a polish. Again speed 2 to spread it around then up to 4 maybe 5 to get a really thin coat.

I understand you caution though, I practiced on an older sh*tter first!

Look in to getting a decent mildish polish like Meguiars 80 Speed Glaze as a good safe starting option to swirl removal.

cheers...

learnt the hard way about lifting off with the PC still goin, NXT everywhere!!! and then ben did it again all over the freshly polished roof.

I had intended to get 80 or 83, but they didnt stock it in halfrauds and i had a crazy week at work and didnt get round to ordering any.

  106 GTi
LOL, you have to do that once!

Halfords only sell the Consumer range not the Pro Range the 80 and 83 is from. Easy on the 83 it can be harsh stuff and is know to haze paint, 80 on a polishing pad is nice and safe to get you going.

Also look into the Poorboys Swirl Remover Range, I find them easier to use than the Megs 80 Seris.

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
was a mint bit of kit. need a few more products and a lil more practice. but results off 1st go were outstanding

well for other products i would leave the megs 3 step and try either the poorboys SSR range (SSR 2.5/2/1),or the menzerna range or meguiars #83 and #80, all are very good products, i especially like the menzerna

yeah it was hard with the poor lighting to get a good pics. It was good to learn, i didnt expect NXT to work miracles, Just wanted to get used to the PC, without have the pressure of several stages to complete. Please with the finish to be honest, after only a few hours work. Few people have said poorboys..... you got any for purchase 182_blue??? If not who would you to suggest to get some off??

Cheers

ive got some Poorboys SSR 2.5 if you wanna borrow it, i hardly ever use it

ben_p has my number and knows where i live, just call round for it anytime

For starting off using the PC the Poorboys SSR range is great IMO. You can tell easily when the polish is ready to remove etc.

So r-jay am i right with this (still getting my head round it)

Clay (only a couple of times a year)
then poorboys such as the SSR2.5 (every three months)
Then a wax, maybe NXT (can be used everytime)

That would be ok??

  106 GTi
I wouldnt personally only use the SSR 2.5 as part of the once yearly clean up after claying.

I would use something more mild once every 3 months such as Autoglym Super Resin or maybe something Meguiars Speed Glaze #80 if the paint needs a bit of a clean up.

2.5 would be too strong for every few months IMO.......

probably something you might do every 6 months or every year

Gave my PC a first go this weekend too on my black escort estate. Just used AG SRP as a starter (i failed to order anything better too!) and it's come up a treat. The black is shining quite nicely, and the flake in the metallic is showing up better than it has for a long time! Was surprised at how much swirling just SRP removed... Need to try it with the big guns now to give it a proper shine!

SRP wont remove swirls by PC unless there are very minor, will give a great gloss though!
