  PEUGEOT 206 GTI 180
as some of you may know ive been looking for a mint 172/182 cup. found one today went to see it and its an 03 clio 172 cup mondial blue with 18k and its immaculate! for 8250 now the tricky part!.

the part ex value of my 180 is cr@p!!! 9k max! but im in 4k negative equity so is it worth getting a loan for 4k and paying the finance on the clio seperatly? it still works out 100 squid cheaper a month and its over a 4 yr term i currently have 2.5yrs standing on the 180 witha 3800 last payment!...... im soooo confused!

are you selling the car privately? think it would be best to sell it, pay off the finance, then get a loan if needed for your clio~?

the 3800 final payment is only if you want to keep the car is it not?
why don't you go back to peugeot and get them to work out an early settlement figure, assuming you've not done above average miles and the cars still in pretty good condition you may not have to pay very much

the car isn't financed through peugeot and its peugeot buying the car off me. ive looked everywhere and 9k is all i can get for it :dapprove:

the only thing putting me off the clio is it will be seven yrs old by the time ive paid for it! yes 3800 is optional final payment but ill deffo be doing it as i want a car at the end of the deal to show for the money ive spent

Use the money you get for the pug 2 pay off the loan, then get a new low interest loan for the rest. Early settlement fee's arn't thet much just charge what interest you would have paid over the time, so you don't really loose to much. Cahoot have the best rate at the moment.

Do what Nez says ablout the loan but why not sell the Pug private will you not get better money for it or are the residuals really that bad that you need to give it to a dealer?

Another thing a 172 Cup for £8250 seems steap to me, it maybe a minter but thats 182 money. I know the 182 isn't everyones cup of tea (no punn intended) but i'd say £7500 is more like what you want to be paying for an 03 plate

so is the final payment on the 180 or would be new car?
my advice would be get a loan from the bank that way your options are a lot better if you get fed up with it etc.
how much have you paid so far on the 180?early settlement figures will also take into account the value of the car,if the cars in better than average condition it might be a good option.
as far as final payments go i wouldn't do it that way,if anything pay more a month, all your doing is delaying the inevitable,if you don't pay it you will have nothing to show for it and if you do you will either have to save hard, take out a loan,or refinance it for two years so it would basically be dragged out for another to years while your still tied to the same car.
i'd go for a loan mate

yes final payment is on the 180 in 29 months time

the clio will be 100 quid cheaper a month but over a 4 yr term with no ballon payment at the end. The clio is just shy of 3 yrs old the 180 is on an 05 plate and 1 yr old

either i carry on for another 2.5 yrs with the pug and struggle to get 3.8k or refinance the final payment. Or get the clio over 4yrs and be better off every month??..... hmmmmmm

Just ring up and get a final settlement figure, you might be supprised. Then get a loan from TheAA or cahoot, you'll pay less interest. Don't go to your bank (they charge the earth!), I tried that.. Been with them about 15 years and they couln't touch cahoot! They don't look after you.. just your money!

i would definetly say the clio mate, baloon payments seem good at the time but wait till the time gets closer,4 year finance will turn into six years finance and at the end of paying it all how much will the car really be worth compared to new and how much by that time will you be spending on renewing parts etc. if your worried about the cars age like said maybe try for a newer 182 at around the same price, although the upside is the 172cup when you come to sell it will be much rarer than a 182.
say you paid 14k for the 180 and its now worth nine,in a year and half you've probobly paid around 3-4k right?if the car is been valued at 9k then take it back get the resettlement figure and you might not end up paying anything at all barring any charged to get out of your finance agreemeant so long as the cars average for its age

I have got the early settlement figure with an interest and insurance discount and 4k is the gap im afraid. Im quite gutted really as this is the most depreciating new car i have bought ive even looked on ebay and no one is bidding on the 180's!!!! seems like i cant give it away! i did try to finance the full 13k needed for the clio and the loan for settlement on my old car through the dealer but they won't lend so much on a car worth much less than that.

I did think about handing it back but you have to own the car for a minimum of half the term to hand the keys back.

I do love the clio and i should have bought one im a small car fan after owning many 205 gti's etc.

do you think 4yr term is too long on a 3yr old car?? warranty runs out in 3 months and it will need mot'ing but it has less miles than my 180

here is the little beauty!!

Thats gorgeous mate! Think I've said to you before, I went 2 buy a 180 a couple of weeks ago but saw a 182ff and fell in love, faster, better fuel economy loads more toys! Really glad I didn't buy the 180..

Hope it works out for you! You'll love the new ride.

i think part of the problem is that part of the market is flooded right now with hot hatch backs with the new clio rs and the new type r and even the new 206 the 207 out soon theirs a lot of choice for people in the 2nd hand market.
i would say four years is too long to be tied down to a car without ending up back at the situation your in now, bank loans at least the car can be sold no hassle anytime you feel like it.
how much did you pay new if you don't mind me asking?you could try and get a loan for 13k,pay of your car completely, sell it privately for 10k,and buy the clio for 8k.that would even though you would still loose 3k,you would save 2k over the price of the 180 buying a car you want more and could pay that back towards your loan(or some mods)and only really loose 1k if you understand me?
whether you sell it now or not its depreciating more every day that goes buy and maybe if your unhappy just better to cut your loses

Thanks for all the advice peeps but im gona have to really think about it all my head is killing me!!.

are 172 cups unreliable??

I did notice that the engine was louder than the 180 especially cranking over with the starter but purred away nicely after that no tapping etc

im bit of a perfectionist when it comes to cars and the clio's engine bay will ge a full clean if i get it as there is some oil spillages where oil has missed the filling hole at the top.

I also noticed that the side strips running down either side of the car look faded!!?? it looks like white polish marks on black plastic?? is that normal?
