Advice please...

Just taken battery off car and replaced with new one, due to dead battery ( dont ask ) anyhow it now seems the car wont start, phoned AA they came out and said its immobiliser, and it seems Renault want to charge me x amount to reset keys...please tell me this is a joke, can it be done by an independant, as the car is just sitting there!

Any help appreciated guys.

Does the little red light on the dashboard go out?
If it does then the keys are fine. Check your relays and fuses.

Could lock the car up, disconnect the battery.

Frig the bonnet sensor closed, reconnect the battery, press the button on the key. See if the doors unlock.

If not, then you know something is not working. Unsure how to programme the immobiliser or that.

This may not work at all, or it could work. You never know untill you try it.

Try thinking out the box..

How about that thing where you can programme another key, is it turn ignition on, then off, then on and off, then take key out, new key in and on or something like that so it recognises they new key..

or am i talking spanish again?

doesn't sound right to me, you can leave a 172 with no battery for 3months then hook it up and it'll fire first time, something else must be fucked IMO

How about telling us what is happening.

Does the central locking work from the remote.
When you turn it on, what happends on the dash.
Is the car turning over.
Do the lights work, radio etc.
Is anything else unusual apart from the not starting
Does it sound like its attempting to start

does the red light in clocks flash quick, slow, or constant?

did you try and jump start the car when your battery went dead?

have you got a red push button near the ECU in the engine bay?

have you got an after market cat 1 alarm?

Central locking still works, red light near gearstick goes out, lights come on including stereo, and it will turn over but will not fire, does not even sound as though it wants to, also when it was dead attempted to jump it and it started yes, has only happened since new battery has gone in.
Curious as to anything i can do myself as i refuse to give Renault anymore of my money!

One more thing, it has no aftermarket alarm on it, just the cat1 that was fitted as standard.

Have you checked the battery has enough power?

Check the earthing straps.

*Update* went and bought some new fuses, stuck them in and hey presto, AA could not pick it up stating it was immobiliser, and now shes working a treat thanks again ppl really appreciate it, such a helpful forum!
