Aftermarket Alarm

Looking at getting an aftermarket alarm as me clio only came wiv an immobiliser:dapprove:, i need peeps thoughts whats the best/worst? what alarm you have? how good is it? what features do i want/avoid. I did go down to my local car audio specialist that does this sorta thing and they have reccomended a Sigma S series S30 Thatcham Cat 1 any ideas?? :rasp:

In my opinion, Clifford are the best made alarms I have come accross. Unfortunately like all things electrical, it depends on who fits them. If you hear bad things about a particular alarm then read "crap installer" unless its Cobra in which case its "crap alarm"

If you dont have the skill to fit your own, find a specialist and ask to see some of the installations they have done. If you see a scotch lock, RUN. if you cant see the wires at all then you have probably found someone who knows what they are doing.

Dont get carried away with remote starts and pagers etc, nice toys but the actual benefits are totally out of keeping with the cost and the potential for things to go wrong are massive.

Ask for the name of a satisfied customer with the same car as yours, and ask them how they like the system and the service they got.
Its your hard earnt, spend it wisely and enjoy.

can only second exactly what brian has said.

always had cliffords (3 on 3 different cars ) never had any problems wats so ever, and they were always fitted by the same person.

the one ive always gone for is the clifford concept 300 ( i think clifford have now changed there numbering, its the 450 i think) they retail from between £300-350 fitted.

its a cat 1 alarm immobiliser and comes with a proximity sensor, so if anybody gets to close or starts peeping through the window it gives of a bleep.

good thing with the clifford concepts is if afterwards u want to add something extra u dont have to completely change the alarm it has the facility to simply upgrade on wat youve already got.

the only thing u might want to consider is the tilt and motion if you have expensive alloys, will give a warning if someone tries to jack your car up.

I'd get a normal Cobra then it can be just liake a normal Clio alarms ie integrated into the fob unlike most alarm which have other fobs.

Hi mate in my oppinion the Toad Ai606 is the best alarm money can buy. In the past i bought one which was installed/reinstalled between 4 nova GTE's and a nova GSI! I now have a clio 172 cup and have now bought another Ai606 but this time with totl closure system for the electric windows and a microwave sensor (also known as a proximity sensor). I know 1 person that has bought a cliffod and it keeps on going off for no apparent reason he has e-mailed clifford seceral times and they cant figure out why this is happening, they have now ran out of ideas and wont even get back to him. To me this means that their after market assistance is s**t! In 5 years of using 2 Toad Ai606's i have never had 1 prob and dont know anybody who has. Hope this helps you out.

To be fair he should of gone back to the installer, Toads are also very good alarms, slightlyi cheaper aswel.
It depends, i recommend toad and clifford depending on your budget

id say definatly go for the Toad Ai606 system as ive got it on 2 of the cars and never had a problem.
Ive had clifford and it was ok for about 6 months then i went to the traxx show last year an the damm thing would not stop going off even though no one was around it at all and everything was lockd an secure, i too got on to clifford about this with the try this and try that things, then i went back to the installer an it burnt out a circuit board, item replaced and 2 months down the line an its going off again, Out came the system and back to normal renault shite that dont pee me off so much.
Toad Ai606 all the way now matey.
