Aftermarket ECU help?

Its becoming quite apparent that the 197 cannot hold a remap and after a few hundred miles reverts itself back to standard, much like new bmws ( so im told ).

My car was mapped with the cams and it feels slower than when the work was first done and my flat spot has re-emerged, so im assuming the ecu has tricked me again .

Looking into getting a standalone aftermarket ECU fitted so im not down on 17bhp potential power. Does anybody with this type of mod fitted have advice on what company to go to and costs etc.???

I'm thinking of using either Omex or Gotech ( Jamsport ).

Dont give up on it, if you can leave your car with us for a week or so then i will get a perfected map done(if i cant then no charge, if all good then i'll do it for £345+VAT). Who's done the map at the moment?

Remap was carried out by AmD Essex, although after the work was done the car run perfect it doesnt seem so nice anymore.

What cures have you got for the 197? No problem with leaving it with you if it can be sorted, losing 17bhp atm from it

I have LOTS of things to do on this setup. I think kev's car is ok with cams but i could be wrong (not heard different).

I am 99% sure i can do it. The adaption is an issue with ignition advance due to knock i expect. The fueling is down to a target map that i have now found and this will give a perfect AFR as requested

Sounds good, im going to try and get it dyno'd this week to confirm the remap has dissapeared, if as suspected it has then i'll get in touch to book my car in.

Is it a case that other mappers wont know how to get around this or is there a possibility they would have done this for me?

Funny you should mention that, i had the ecu update from Renault with the kangaroo etc. Fine for a fortnight, now its as bad as ever....

Whats your thoughts RS tuning? I want a remap to get rid of the flat spot it has, but dont want to wate my money lol

They DO NOT revert to stock mapping, it's built in safety and PITA features that casue the difference. Fuel trims etc.

I'm a little confused, so the rempas on there but the engines restricting itself to prevent damage? hence the power loss.

Turn them off

Most are emissions related to bring the cars into a lower tax band, this is the cause of the flat spots on these pretty much.

thats why i've put off remapping mine. Didnt want to spend the money, only to have it revert back after a few weeks. What gains do you typically see on a stock 197? Its the flatspot i hate/want smoothing etc

They run them lean to meet the criteria, richening them up makes them run better so yes it's safer. The things you dont touch are knock correction as this is a helpful thing!

Between 5 and 11hp depending on the individual car, the major gain on these are at 2000 rpm ish where you can see upto 20lbft torque!

Im only running 169lbft of torque atm so hopefully with your tricks i might see an improvement?

169 is good but without seeing it on mine it's impossible to compare the numbers. I know what they should and shouldnt do on my own dyno which helps greatly when mapping them!

What i wanted to hear :rasp: couldnt live without the soundtrack of the decat lol, managed to spit a lil blue flame a couple times too.

Flatspot was nicely mapped out last time by AmD, still present but smoothed out. Shame its back :dapprove:

LOL!! Its not jealousy mate, I just dont understand it, you have the same cams as me but I have other bits?? Im confused!! :S

Maybe the STD airbox is the better setup? as it is in the 182s case?

Maybe the decat isnt so bad after all?

Or maybe its just a stronger engine from renault, it did produce 194bhp std, didnt yours only manage 188bhp???

I run the engine in religiously for 4000miles so that could have given me a bhp or two.

You will get some large changes at times from different airboxes

especially if there are induction hoses like the std ones..

these can be seen by the engine as tuned length, and effect where how much the peak torque is

std 182 for e.g, if you remove the elbow it will increase low to mid torque but then there is a flat spot before returning to std

If its more then fair play to you, it just doesnt make sense for the same cams and an exhaust on yours vs cams, exhaust, inlets filter on mine that yours makes a claimed 7BHP more!!

Only made 203 with a decat!!!

Cat back in as the flatspot was massive and lost torque!

Mapped on 97!

The factor in this is the rollers, mine reads way over 203 on other rollers!

Mines mapped on 99, but what u gotta remember is that mine made a good 7bhp more than yours standard, theres probaly where the advantage is.

Be it a better built engine or better run in i dunno, we need a head to head.

We do!!

It made 7BHP more on THAT dyno, thats not to say it made more than mine as STD as mine wasnt run on it!!

What make was the dyno out of curiosity?

I'm not too clued up on the dyno game so just leave the motor with em then check the print out after lol.

You should ring AmD and spk to them, they might be able to tell you how they managed to get my ECU to hold the map.
