aftermarket exhausts (sticky?)

  Monaco Blue 172
okay, if u have BOUGHT an aftermarket exhaust(s) please add your responses to the below:
  • what car: ie. mk# ph# &/or engine size
  • brand/type: eg. ktec, yozza, decat, catback, etc
  • approx cost: £££
  • noisyness: try to describe, i know its not easy!
  • fitting: where did u have this done, and do u think it affected the quality of the end result? if u had problems how were they resolved?
  • recommendation/comments: would u buy that exhaust again? please keep on topic ;)
mods, if you agree could we have this as a sticky? would be most excellent i think. could maybe add a poll but i'm not sure what options would be needed yet? also please remove any posts not sticking to the requirements, if ppl want to have a more general discussion about exhausts please do it elsewhere - the purpose of this thread is to give an idea of what options people have tried and what experience they've had. Its quite a big investment and I personally only plan on doing it once :approve:

thanks!!! (don't ask for much do i?) :D

  Clio v6
  • what car: ie. mk# ph# &/or engine size MK2 V6 3.0
  • brand/type: eg. ktec, yozza, decat, catback, etc Prospeed de-cat
  • approx cost: £££ More than £500 I believe.
  • noisyness: try to describe, i know its not easy! Sorry I can't hear you.
  • fitting: where did u have this done, and do u think it affected the quality of the end result? if u had problems how were they resolved? At Prospeed. Some alignment problems have crept in over time, these will be dealt with when I have a spare moment.
  • recommendation/comments: would u buy that exhaust again? When I get my next V6 I will certainly buy another one from Prospeed

On topic I hope.

  Black 172 MK2
mk2 ph2 172
Blueflame cat-back.
around £270ish i think :S
a nice purr below 3k 3-4k its loud but nice above 4k sounds loverly.
the garage didnt have any problems fitting, they thought they would but they wer very surprised. Only prob was knocking against the rear beam thingy.
If i was replacing my exhuast on a budget and wanted a nice sound i would buy it again.

  flame red 172
what car: mk2 172
approx cost: £450, custom 4" de cat, built to spec sounds like heaven and hell rolled in 1
fitting: lifetime guarentee, had a lil speedbump accident an split the middle pipe and it was sorted the same day, will use again for all my cars

  tiTTy & SV650
182
Blueflame cat-back.
under £300
improved low down torque, much better look, no danger of it rusting to bits like the renault one I replaced at 24k miles. lifetime warranty, sounds better than standard.

Fitting was easy and the specialist garage who fitted it commented on how it was one of the better off the shelf systems they'd seen, didnt have any problems fitting it and when I queried them about the welds they said they were pretty good for an off the shelf unit.

what car: mk2 clio 172 full fat
brand/type: ktec stealth (mk 2)
approx cost: £250 second hand (2weeks old) - £340 new
noisyness: very good, nice and subtle and howls like a banshee when you boot it. hardly hear it at 70mph on the motorway.
fitting: did it myself, had to saw off the standard one where it goes over the back beam. easy to fit, did it once and wasn't happy so re-did it with some firepaste and it was perfect.
recommendation/comments: defo recommend this one, is good value, awesome quality and looks standard so you dont look like a tool with a bin hanging off the back of the car. has improved the performance and driveability of the car no end.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
what car: mk2 clio 172 phase 1
brand/type: ktec twin tail pipe cat back
approx cost: £340 new
noisyness: ok, but raspy when giving it beans, loud and drony on the motorway, good for normal driving
fitting: doesnt really fit, if it is ligned up properly it blows , if you make it not blow the back box is wonky and it rattles
recommendation/comments: maybe i just got a bad one????

  Renaultsport Clio 182
# what car: Full Fat 182
# brand/type: eg. YOZZASPORT
# approx cost: £ 500 for the exhaust and 100 for the De-cat
# noisyness: Its loud! ........................... But alot of fun (also under 98db!)
# fitting: fitted at Yozzasport, No problems whatso ever
# recommendation/comments: Highly Recommended! Top service

  Milltek'd 182
what car: 05 182
brand/type: Milltek
approx cost: £360 - £460 depending where you get it
noisyness: bassy, not overly loud but a very very nice note
fitting: mate at an exhaust place. one mount not used...no big deal. was blowing at the cat - resealed it with firegum and did the clamp up tighter and bobs your uncle!
recommendation/comments: i would buy it again. the best looking exhaust for the 182 imo and a good noise level with impoved performance

yozzasport road system (cat back)

cost new: £400

when driving steadily around town its really not that loud at all. and when you give it some beans it really does sound absolultely 'proper' quite loud, but it really is an experience, and makes such a nice noise it actually puts a smile on my face.

had a small problem in that its designed for the ph2 but my local place fitted it without trouble in about an hour and a half. commenting on how nice it was to fit. only problem was a crappy exhaust mount that has since been replaced.

would recommend this exhaust to absolutely anyone. everyone who has seen and heard it loves it - just like me :)

what car: mk2 clio 172 phase 2
brand/type: Pro Speed Stealth cat back
approx cost: £318 new
noisyness: perfect, a note to it when you want one, but cant hear it on the motorway.
fitting: spot on, being a custom made exhaust it was made to the car.
recommendation/comments: Buy one for sure.

what car: mk2 clio 172 Cup
brand/type: Pro Speed Stealth cat back
approx cost: £318 new
noisyness: You are aware of the noise over standard (thinner glass and less soundproofing on the Cup!) But sounds nice when giving the car some 'beans'...also liveable for general use.
fitting: Was built as a one off for the car, each weld was done there while the car and jigs were up. Was then also checked by Charlie, and done on the same day as I'd called due to old exhaust falling off!
recommendation/comments: Charlie is a perfectionist, and I rate his work. The exhaust is stainless steel and has a lifetime guarantee...for £40 the ownership guarantee can be transferred, so if you sell the car, this can be a positive sales point! Would go there again...and I drove down from Telford to Cardiff to get it done.

what car: 2004 1.2 16v extreme
brand/type: k-tec tail, powerflow silencer, custom chrome pipework
approx cost: £500
noisyness: fairly quiet on tick over. Between 2 and 4000 makes deepish echo. Above 4000 quietens down.
fitting: Built custom for the car. It was assembled at CC
recommendation/comments: Custom exhausts are great for uniquness as you can vary the style and noise how you want it. They do cost more though and more problems can be encountered.

yozzasport with secondary de-cat

cost new: £550

Loud but around 96db I think. Have to ask fred on that. Not bad when driving slowly and at steadily. When you floor it it gets much louder and sounds awesome. Defo puts a big smile on your face.

Fitting done by yozzasport as it was development.

Defo recommend to anyone. Much better in quality than the Milltek I had on the 197.
