Aftermarket speaker Problem

  Clio 182
Hi Guys

I have a 197 and have fitted an Alpine CDE 9880R head unit and then fitted the below speakers in the front and rear speaker wells while still running the original tweeters!

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/infinity-kappa-529i-p-6732.html

The sound is really crisp and sounds good at low and medium levels however when I turn it up the bass becomes a little distorted and all is a little to harsh on the ears (high pitch skreech)! Are there any good audio specialist on the forum (or in my area that can show me) or give some advice on how to improve the sound. I fitted Coaxials in the front as I couldnt be arsed to take of the dash!

Thanks

Hi on your head unit try looking for a Hi pass filter, i should think there will be a option somewhere that allows you to scroll to different levels of filter, this will basically filter out some of the lower frequency that your speakers do not play very well , this is due to there size. once the filter is applied your speakers will sound alot more crisp as they will only be playing the frequencies the size of speaker is designed to play. that should get rid of the distortion , the screeching maybe pay around with the trebble and bass levels hope that helps im by no means an expert just things i played with in my last car

Later Alpine units are naturally 'bright'....
Infinity speakers also are naturally 'bright'....
You fitted coaxial speakers, (incorporates a tweeter), in place of a 'mid', (no tweeter)....
You also have dash mounted 'tweeters' still running....

Your complaining its sounding 'bright', wonder why....

Maybe your expecting too much from your current setup???
Maybe your head units internal amplifier is running out of power & clipping, (will be heard as distortion)....
Maybe you have a loose or poor connection on a speaker causing the noise???

Maybe because your now running 2ohm coaxial speakers in conjunction with the stock tweeters the actual 'load' or 'impedance' the head unit amplifier is 'seeing' is too low....

Without actually checking it out myself I can't give a definite diagnosis, but I would start with the above....

Then I would improve the coaxial speakers mid-bass by deadening & sealing the front doors.....

If still not suitable, fit a sub in the boot....

Ok what Mid Speakers would you recomend for around £40??? Problem is i do not want an amp set up or have to remove the dash board which i know limits the quality I can achieve!

its hard to say really as when you go look around shops for speakers they are not in a car and all set up differently , but i found when i was shopping for speakers to run off my head unit not an amp the alpine e types sounded best compared to the rest in that price range. But if you feel like you would go down the amp route , id look at focals , or boston acoustics really would'nt need a big amp either if just looking at amping front speakers 50w rms per channel . But with out amping prob best to look for some that match your rms of the head unit . if its an alpine i think i remember you saying some where it prob about 20 rms per channel
