I spoke to him earlier about some boxes I need doing, he reckoned 100 ish for labour to pull them apart and back together (each), and then parts cost on top of that.
Sounded pretty fair to me, was going to do them myself but i really dislike building gearboxes so for that money its never worth the hassle especially as im on a fairly tight schedule with a couple of the cars they are for.
He didnt mention VAT at all to me, but no doubt that is just cause he is mainly used to dealing with the motor trade who are VAT registered anyway so Im sure he isnt trying to con people, as of course it only tends to be the tax dodging or very small back street garages that arent VAT registered anyway so he probably just expects most people to be able to claim it anyway. So if you are approaching as an individual then work on the basis you will need to add it.
He had a very good knowledge of the JC5 in particular, and lots of experience doing people on here's, so certainly better option than picking on a random local re-conditioner Imho who might not be familiar with some of their individual quirks, its a pain in the arse putting boxes in these cars really so you dont want to have to do it twice cause the person is learning on the job
