Air bag ECU help

Hi folks, bought a 2001 1.2 16v dynamique for my son, the lad said he ran into a kerb head on in icy conditions and it set of side airbags, front buckels and rear seat belts. Car runs fine but airbag/service light on.He had wheels allignment checked and new tyers put on. Now what i have done so far by advice given and after some more help please. I have replaced the rear seat belts with pretensioners, front buckle pretensioners and wired in some resistors (0.6w 3.9ohm) into the 2 front seats to try before having to lash out for seats. I got a local independant garage to plug in their diagnostic tool to see what comes up and to try and clear faults but all they have said to me is that it is "locked out". So contact renault. What does this mean locked out and what should need to be done to save me going to renault, cost a fortune going there. Been told to send it of to be reset but where? Will this work and with the resistors in place. Needs to be done for new MOT rules so ive been told.Thanks :S

Hello, I had this same problem passenger airbag and front pretensioners went off I replaced them all and I got another Aribag ecu off ebay for about £15 that was not crash damaged took the old one out and plug this one in and all the lights went out.

The lights wont go out until you get the airbag ecu cleared of its faults. There places on ebaay etc I belive which do the service cheap. Otherwsie you need a new blank airbag computer.

The resisters just mimic the normal airbags system hence why people use them when the car has the airbags removed.

Hi, i have sent ecu of to be reset now and should be back this week. One other question i'd like to ask is that although it was a bump yo front end that set of airbags does that mean the side impact sensors will be fine or need replacing. Thanks again.

Impact sensors should be fine as they aren't use once components.

my airbag ecu has an internal fault and i have a 2nd hand one i fitted but its got a fault of wrong configuration can they be recoded?

Yes, they can be done but this is why you need to get them from an identical spec vehicle.
