Air con/climate problem

First problem - the air con light comes on, but i can't hear the pump kicking in and just doesn't get cold.

Second is that on anything other than min temp, it blows warm air. Set on min its fairly cold without the air con working.

Any ideas? I've read a few threads about rheostats failing.

I dont think its the resistor pack..I seem to remember another thread il see if I can find it.

The Resistor pack usually causes the whole climate control not to work at all.

Does the fan speed work okay?

Take the climate sensor out from the light and give that a blast out with some air...thats worth a hot first. If that sorts it then jobs a good-un.

How would the sensor stop the air con functioning?

if it's hissing then then aircon needs regassing mate. It will be cold without the aircon, but not very. Turn radio off, turn on climate control, then press the aircon button. If you hear it hiss then there is your problem.

Is the CC still getting hot?

climate is hot on every temp setting apart from min. There is no hissing or noise when the AC button is pressed. Usually the engine idle changes when the air con is turned on but its just the same.

still sounds like it needs a regas to me. I'm sure it's possible to get it checked, but not sure how much it costs.

If the sensor is blocked then it wont be getting the correct readings to adjust for AirCon to come on maybe

Im just shooting in the dark TBH fella on the Aircon part.

The Climate control part I.e it being hot all the time no matter what settign is definitely (well 90% sure) to do with the sensor.

Doesnt cost a thing to check if it needs regassing..I had mine checked last time it was in the garage and they checked it for free,

Got mine regassed earlier in the year for £50 - thought this is great! It soon went warm again (pressing AC made no resposne at all)

I had a broken seal on one of my air-con pipes about a month ago, renault took it in and resealed it, injected the dye and regassed. Everything was grand until last week - the AC would still kick in, you could hear the gas when the fans were turned down, but MIN +AC did not feel as cold as it normally did.

Heater works fine and fan controls are all normal

Now when I press the AC button I can't hear anything (I dred the thoughts of being back on square 1 with this after a near £200 fix)

What rattles my cage even more now is the coldest setting is actually warmer than having the bloody window open!

I've lived without my aircon for 2 years. Not sure if its worth spending money getting it fixed coming into winter either...

It is.

For when you need to demist your screen without it taking 4 hours.

Just run the car over to Kwik Fit, they'll do a regas and if it doesn't make any difference, you dont pay.... and take it to an aircon specialist instead to do the real detective work

if it's been regassed and not lasted long then the seals on the system have dried up due to lack of use. Aircon needs to be run to prevent it from requiring fixing.

For the comment Goodj made about it for winter, I'd like it sorted quick & easy - as last winter was a ballache without it working properly. (I thought I had it sorted FFS)

Jonny - seals dry up in the space of a month? Even if the car is driven & AC is used :S

Is that a month since the regas? or prior to that? Seems a bit strange if that's the case. Might be something else then.

In around that, need to check the date on the Renault invoice :)

When I had it in Renault to replace the broken seal - I had to get a pack of rubber O-Rings.

When the job was done, I got half the packet back, should they not have replaced them all while they were in there? :S

so if your air con hisses when you press the a/c button then it needs re-gassing, even if its still blowing cold?
