Air filter on a turbo? How important

  R35 GTR
I got some bbpt big green cone type filter, looks a bit max power to be honest. Is there any benefit of getting colder air into the inlet? There is no heat shielding around it, and i've also thought about closed air intakes.

won't matter what you use really dave, at least you have a chrage cooler, i'd be interested to know your inlet temps

supposed to be 0-60 in 4.9 according to letstorquebhp.com

All down to driver skill though, I am slow at gear changes.

Fred, measuring temperatures is what i do best.lol. Why do you need to know these? What would a good one be? I borrow some toys from work to check all this out.

it would just be interesting to compare your inlet temps to a normal 172/182

BenR is the engine geek, speak to him on whats best

Cooler temps are always good as turbos heat up air something wonderful, the lower you start off, the less heat your charge cooler has to dump. And keeping air temps at or as close too 40 deg which is the temp that det really starts to come a cropping, is important.

Filter solution wise, whatever suits your wallet and fits the bay, dont run a viper though as the filter area will be too small.

Ah ok, cheers. Did think the viper would be too small, could imagine the innards being sucked out of it and into the engine.

Will try and fabricate a heatshield as it gets so bloody hot in the bay.

yeh i think its a green cotton one. As for the heat shield, I'll model one in cardboard first, then get it welded together. Might get a discount if we both have one.:)

Yep.....even more important on turbo cars

I'd be inclined to run one of those AEM filters which sits in the wing to keep things really cool.
