Air intake thermometer

Craggy mentioned something to me about these £10 digital thermometers from Halfords, and that people had managed to set them up as air intake temperature gauges by running the cable through to the engine bay.

The effect of air temp. on performance is of interest to me, so Im going to have a go at doing this (cheap if I feck it up!) but.....what is the best route to go to get the sensor cable from engine bay to interior? I wouldnt know where to start.

if you get all this done, then lets see some pics, it interests me too...

oh an its probably through the grommet under the expansion tank mate

Thanks Brun - will take a look. Hope I dont have to remove any of the dash to get at it.

Will put picks up if I manage it.

you shouldnt have to mate, move the seats back and pull the carpet back a bit from the passenger side footwell

Cool...might even manage to do it tonight. Might fork out for an AP22 next month :devilish:

Could really do with an engine bay temp. sensor as well as one for the air intake. Hmm....

did the same for gengars install when we put his amps under the false floor, were worried about the temp through ventilation. worked very good, and was v cool when we switched the coolign fans on and saw the temp drop!

got fan from maplins

there 15 quid from halfords, and theres a long lead comes with it with tiny thermometer gadget on end. perfect for measuring the air temp , put iy just before butterly on valver i would imagine best place in the airbox you can always move it.

It would be cool to move the temp seson in the Valvers from the Mirror to the air intake then have that commin up on the dash.

what do these temp sensors in halfords look like then ?.....cos im goin there in a min

just a little square with l.e.d screen with temp on it. a couple or three inches square an a cm or 2 deep. obviuosly has wire coming out it too

yeah ive had a set up like this for the past 2yrs in my valver. i fed the lead thru the bulkhead and into the airbox/sealed air filter, and screwed it directly beneath the heater controls on the 19. works a treat. with induction kit, underbonnet temps can reach 50degrees on a cruise, wile sat in traffic, the temp goes off the scale. with a sealed air pipe from the frotn bumper, to the standard air box, the temp never goes above 15degrees c even during hot summer days wile driving. i have had -2 on the air temp in airbox during winter. the car shifts so much then!

thats very handy!

it would be very good indicator on rollin rds to test inlet air temp and ref it to output, and check for any diffs.....cool.

also allow us to compare the diff between diff IKs!

here you go ben its called a small temp module, order number 011940/1. part number i think is yu07 . hope that helps

Surely a cool place for this mod would be to wire it to the radio screen on the new clios in place of the temp reading from the wing mirrors.

Has anyone tried this yet it cant be too complicated can it?

My muthas got one of these in her car. Got it from halfords I think. Its an outside temperature thing. Always seems a high temp though compared to the standard renault one. Dunno about accuracy
