Air recirculation

  BMW Z4 2.5si Sport

This air recirculation button thats on all new Clios... Is it meant to stop all air coming in from outside?? As i pressed mine on my 1.2 16v Dynamique today, cos I spotted some smoke crossing the road ahead..... When pressed I can feel a strong draught on my legs in the footwell, and could really smell the smoke when going through it..

Is this what should happen?? As I thought all air would be recirculated, and it would stop the smoke getting in?? or am I not understanding what its for properly??

you are correct in your assumptions...but also remember that cars arent airtight and air still gets in.

The extra strong blast of air is normal

also use the reserculation button when the air con is on. to save power and petrol as this stops the air con system from cooling new air and useing more energy same as a plane does..sortoff

I find it seals the outside air quite well. great if you get stuck behind the smokey No:9 bus! Actually due to work recently, I havent had the 172 out of the garage for a few weeks, but ran the engine for a while in the garage to charge the battery (not recommended BTW) with the recirculation. Was fine inside, but absolutely minging when I opened the car door afterwards. So if you want to top yourself dont use recirculation LOL!

dont drop a really bad fart with it on tho, my mate recently turned veggie and its played havoc with his digestion and i had the misfortune to have the smelly b*****d in my car with the recirc on

Im having the same problem, it used to work just fine, then it started to let the smoke of others cars in. Does anyone know how to get to the part responsible for it? maybe I van seal it for good, got not interest on smelling the outside world
