My first post (hope I’ve posted in right section)...
Got all Renaults in the family, myself a Clio mk1 phase3 maxim, brother a Clio mk3 DCi65 ‘51 and the old man's got a Laguna.
Saturday night, my brothers driving some friends home to Cornwall from a night out in Plymouth along one of the less forgiving roads down here. Turning a gentle right hander, suddenly there's flash/bang cabin fills up with smoke, engine cuts out :quiet: Pulls in and finds the passenger side airbag's gone off by itself, hitting his passenger on the side of the head. Took a look at the car, no marks or sign of an impact, no stones on road etc, hadn't felt anything prior to it going off, nothing through the steering etc.
Car's well out of warranty but took it to Mumford’s Renault in Plymouth anyway. Inspected the car and they come up with a load of excuses and possible impact marks, half of which are marks from where it’s been jacked up on occasions. Computer reads an impact has occurred and they've quoted around £1800 to fix it up... not impressed to say there was NO impact!
He's got 2 witnesses that were in the car, passenger was hurt (minor hit to head) and that's not mentioning the smoke and cut off kicking in etc... what would have happened if that happened on the motorway?!?!?! :quiet:
Renault are not playing ball with this one and are getting funny about it already. I seen a few posts about this happening to other mk3 owners, anyone get anywhere with Renault afterwards?? worth taking it further (legally) as could have caused a serious accident imo.
Thoughts??
N.B. my m8's 182 got hit by a sunday driver couple of weeks ago, totalled the front end and NO airbags went off!!! Make’s me wonder if my airbag would work if i needed it :S
