Airbag gone off for no reason!

Hi can you guys help

My airbag in the passager seat has just gone off for no reason.

Passager Footwell filled with smoke then got a massive bang and the bloody airbag when off damaging the passager seat.

Has this happened to anyone elsa and well it be covered under warranty!

And i was sitting stationery at the time it happened!!!:nono:

I heard of BM 5 series where all 8 airbags went off just as the salesman handed the car over (ouch!)

Was a while ago, but was caused by faulty wiring of a handsfree phone kit - (fitted by a third party).

Have anything like that fitted?

this has happened to quite a few people just going over potholes and stuff. im not sure its covered though? i think the case i remember they paid so much % of the cost. could be wrong though mate?

If your car's still in warranty I would have thought it would be covered - unless the wiring's been fiddled with.

Nothing has been fiddled with its as it let the showroom!

And the car was not moving!!!

happened to harry manback, The dealer will need to authorize it with Renault UK first. Your best speaking to renault UK, explain the situation, if they are trying to get out of it you might need to remind them of the danger if you had a passenger on board.

Punch your mate in the face and say he was sitting there before a journey surely that would be worth a few pounds with the no win no fee scavangers.

But on a serious note thats really dangerous i would go back to renault and create a massive fuss.

they ought to have their tail between their legs to be honest

pay for some of it? do renault brainwash all their employees or something

id be expecting it be repaired and a voucher/free next service, airbags can cause serious injury.

lol, i no renault uk will try and get outa paying for anything after warranty had ended.
A bloke with a traffic van had a major oil leak from his oil filter houseing 2 days after the warranty ended. renault didnt want to know, bill was £500

My girlfriend was is in the passengers seat when it happened thank god she is ok.

If renault refuse to do it under warranty what am i looking at for a repair bill?

I know i need a new seat and stuff. any ideas after the ecu is reset and all the other stuff that is needed!

Its only the passengers seat airbag which whent off!

Would imagine to do it through renault would be circa £800-£1k, they should pay for it though with some whinging. Harry_manbacks was a 172 so well out of warrenty and I don't think he payed for it.

Just before the airbag went off, there was smoke comming from the passanger footwell and around the seat, does that normally happen just before the airbag goes off?

No should just go off, the smoke usually follows in my experience .

nothing about this is warranty mate, I had the same happen to me and eventua;;y after enough arguments with several people at reno uk It was all replaced. was my drivers seat. Think nmy car was 4 yrs old at the time

The irony is that if you'd actually crashed, it probably wouldn't have gone off. Mind you I wont be able to drive mine soon anyway, as the steering wheel is almost gone.

Spoke to renault today and have been told i have to wait untill wednesday / thursday untill they will even look at it, and then it could take up to 3 weeks to repair, if parts are not in stock they have to wait 5 days or so to come over from france!

All this time and i am carless at renault have told me the next date i can get a car is NEXT friday (7/11/08)!!

Really not happy with the service from renault!

i hit a pothole when my airbags went off so the sensor thought it had been a crash and triggered the passenger front and back pretensioners and front chair airbag.

Had s**t loads of problems with renault getting it sorted after the guys on here told me it had was a problem they knew about. so ended up waiting around for a week until the head guy got back to me to confirm it was unsafe to use.

they had my car for a couple of weeks, they put the wrong chair in and the car came back covered in crap.

No should just go off, the smoke usually follows in my experience .

the smoke mainly consists of talc powder that the air bag is covered in 2 prevent it sticking together

Its actualy beggers belief this doesnt happen more often with the state of the roads.

Ive seen crators that could write your car off if you went down it never mind deploy air bags. Then the good old boys from Glasgow city council come and fill it with grit and thats precisley what im paying a fortune in road tax for...

Lodge a claim through the small claims court and inform them in writing. You will have your car repaired in jig time.

Hi a month later and it's still in the garage. Sorry I have not replyed yeah lucky angela was all ok just a bit shaken up by it all.

Renault had told me a cable under the chair was rubbing on the metel body work and over time it has got worst and on the day it happened it shorted out (why there was a lot of smoke before the bang) and it had melted all the cable loom back to the computer!

So far the repair bill has topped £2500 just for parts (been told the cable from the computer to the airbag is £990.

I am so happy renault are paying for it just but use annoyed it's taking so long!

Also been told it's an 8 hour job to fit it all because every thing is coming out and being replaced, Inc seat frame, wiring loom new computer, and all the carpets has to come up too!

yeah they would replace the whole interior loom and im guessing that they dont stock things like that!
very lucky renault are replacing it free though.

i do worry about being landed with a bill like that though, mine is 8 years old!

I got no compensation from then other than getting my car fixed. no wiring fault on mine though it just blew up!! courtesy cars have the best handbrakes!!

make sure they fit the correct pats, i ended up with a mk1 upper frame on mine. which meant they added another nob. 6months later it didnt work and the head rest wobbles about, i hate renault!
