Airey farting sound

  A well built VW
Not on a clio but a calibra

on idle and when running had the same with my golf at one point whats it most likely to be , the engine runs fine no loss of power just dont like the sound - likely to be due to higher miles 100k+

Any ideas welcome !

  TDI tyre shreader
knackered exhaust i'd say, might have lost the fill out of one or more of the silencers

Is it an Ecotec 2.0 16v? If so, they are prone to snapped exhaust manifold bolts, normally the one on the left hand side by the cambelt cover. They have also been known to crack the manifold itself.

That sounds like it could be it then mate. Try www.migweb.co.uk though as it is a wealth of knowledge.
To be honest though, I think all Ecotecs are designed to sound a bit wrong. My Ecotec Chavalier loves to whine, not sure if it is the flywheel or power steering pump but it has always done it. It gives them character.
