I wish I didn't have glide touch, it's near impossible to keep my finger on the dam strip while driving.

Glidetouch is rubbish, a big gimmik if you ask me. The new alpines look good, shame i wont be able to afford another one for a while :(

I must be one of the only people who doesnt mind the glide touch at all. Find it really easy to use without looking at the unit etc.

But still prefer the current 9855 over the newer ones apart from the 9965 but thats got a ridiculous price.

Least more of them have dvd playback now though.

Most important feature of SOME of the 2006 units is the new boxless ipod interface, its mega fast too.

glad to see glide touch has been kept away from the HU i want.

I give the glide-touch a go in my local ICE store -

love the look of the unit and didnt really see any problem with the glide (from flicking the menu etc)

What is the main problem with the glidebar?
Will the glide be easier to use for those who have a screen in their dash?

i dont find the glide touch a problem to use at all. Its when i see other people using my unit i sit there thinking whats the damn problem you can scroll through a few menus at ones rather quickly they seem to slide there finger the entire way across and move 1 thing over.

Just need to be a little more heavy handed with it.

I think it works brilliantly though i can browse through menus and change everything without looking at the unit.

Cool -sounds good enough for me to get 1 :)

Can these units be linked to a small screen? might be even easier to use :)

Pitty they've only got the biolite screen on the stupid expensive one, its colour though and looks quite nice.

i dont mind the glidetouch at all, only thing that gets frustrating is when you scroll too far in menus

i'd so love to buy that one but it would involve getting a new 4-channel amp and a nice set of comps which would make it a little pricey:dapprove:

Theres another 1 of the new units with biolite unfortunately its not a dvd unit :S

But yeah the dvd units you can link up an alpine touch screen to and it becomes a slave unit then.

just brought a alpine CDA9855R think its quite a good head unit not really played with it much looks like its going to need a lot of setting up tho

They do need a lot of setting up to get sounding perfect. And you really need to read the manual. Find a few things you can do with it you wouldnt otherwise know about.

I've bought and fitted the 9850Ri this week and it's great!!

Unfortunately the standard fit speakers in the Trophy are cack so I won't be able to really enjoy it until next weekend when I fit my new speakers (see Trophy Sound System thread)....

I need to read the book for it to understand it fully, but it's great for my purposes and only £190 from CAD....
