Alternator fire!

Whilst driving this evening I noticed a burning smell and a small ammount of smoke coming from under the bonnet. Battery and warning light were on but car was running as normal. Pulled over to find a lot of smoke coming from my alternator and small flames! The flames eventually went out, but i am now left with no electical power or anything!
Is it just the alternator buggered or am I looking at a more serious problem?

Windings shorted and burnt out , needs a new alternator.
Rest should be fine maybe a blown fuse or something.
