Alternator Whistle

So, following on from this thread:

i have now got a whistling noise coming from the alternator. Reading up on it on the net it sounds like it might be the bearing and nothing to worry about, expect it is quite load at lower rpm.

do I need to worry and is there anything I can do to shut it up?
