It may be not the right cars, but I’ve been to see a few different cars over the months and nothing grabs me.

Just before I drove an 08 Yellow! Cupra, 2 owners etc. Overall was ok and felt fast, not sure it was actually quicker than mine because turbo but went well.

And I was picky, and my cars not perfect.

I’m considering maybe getting something newer but have wondered about that white Megane on here :/

Yep. It’s annoying lol.

I never used to be like this, had cars for less than a month before getting bored etc.

I can relate to this as well.

Current daily driver is a mk5 1.9 tdi se golf. I’m looking for either a 320d touring or a 330d touring. Must be a certain spec as well, so Msport + pack and pro nav, plus a few other bits and pieces. Looked at a few now and nothing’s making making me want to part with my cash! Yet the golf boils my piss on a daily basis!!

The Leon I looked at drove well, few bits that would need doing.

Is it I can’t be arsed doing the jobs, or do I look currently for an excuse to keep my car. It’s odd working in the car trade a clio should be laid to rest lol.

If you’re like me it’ll be that you can’t be arsed to do the work mate. I could buy a non msport braked touring and fit them myself.............but I cbfa! Other items could be coded in at work with a bit of cheating...............but I cbfa! Lol

Buy a shitter and enjoy not worrying about it.

When I went to view the s4 it was as described. Bit of kerbing, stone chips and a bit of peeling lacquer. It was otherwise straight, drove well and looked fairly tidy. Immaculate inside too.

It’s a proper breath of fresh air knowing it’s not immaculate and just using it as a car. Whereas with the clio, I’d obsess over it, park miles away so it didn’t get dings and got really upset when I found a new mark or stone chip.

So Leon and megane off the wanted list now then, what's next?
Just keep the clio. You love the thing, otherwise it would have gone long ago. You already have a family bus so why the need for a bigger car? I think the problem is you've usually changed car quickly but haven't wanted to this time and you're thinking you should have, but the clio does what's needed and it's a nice example. Spend the cash on a nicer family car if you want new wheels on the drive.

Yeah, not that much lol. Plus never been a massive fan :/

Have got my eye on an fn2 and golf mk6 on a dealer auction so will see how that goes.

I hate buying cars now. I've been to look at a few golf gti's, Leon's etc. Way less miles than the octavia, but nowhere near as cared for. Jump back into mine, and it feels far fresher.

That looks great but generally pics do those cars zero favours, even the facelift too.

Up close they look better, look smaller and a very nice car. If I was to opt for one it would be the facelift model.

Prices, bizarrely, seem to be on the up. I paid 5k iirc, the equivalent today is at least 1k more. Fl even more.

Had a mooch on eBay/briskoda etc, nothing takes my fancy.

What’s the miles on yours?
109k. 60k of that with a map. It's been faultless. But I maintain it well. Serviced at a specialist, all the mods done correctly, and all the right precautions (cam follower changed every service, run on v power).

Most of the cars I've looked at (especially the Leon's) seem to have been maintained by people that couldn't afford to maintain a pushbike. And feel f**king awful as a result.

What Leon/golf have you been looking at.

I had my eye on a mk6 gti with 60k and a great spec. 2010/60, went for 9400 on a dealer auction lol. I’d agreed with the better half 8500 would be my bid.

I’m liking the mk5 too, nice 5 door 07/08 would be a car I’d buy. From looking most are 100k plus which doesn’t interest me. Concern with the mk5 is rust though. I imagine them being one big pile of rust being a bit shy, then boom, rust central. Can’t be too bad though :/

Drive an E46 M3, I was never a fan until I drove one - changed my expectation of what a normal everyday car could be. Its strangely similar to the little 182 which I've just bought in that out the box (when not knackered) both are incredibly versatile and capable fast road/light track cars - you wouldn't set the world on fire in either but you would 100% have fun.

Plus, they are appreciating, if you buy one that needs a bit of work you would absolutely make your money back in a few years. Planted, confidence inspiring drive and they are old enough now that owners don't look like posers. If you couldn't tell I'm a bit of a fan!

Mk5 era. I don't want the mk6, prefer the tfsi lump. 5dr dsg, so looking at the golf, Leon, A3.

The era you're looking at is before they revised the chain tensioner. Not sure what prices are now, but when I looked a couple of years ago it was £900ish to have the chain/tensioner done, and it was considered to be a pretty sensible preventative measure. I think 2011 onwards have a revised tensioner.

I’m glad to a point I missed the golf, looked great though. And the first car I’ve seen that I’ve thought yeah would like that a lot, but 10k, mmm.

I need to be more realistic, 5/6k for a daily.

There's a bloody lovely mk5 gti up at 5k. Low miles, good spec. But it's in ruddy Edinburgh!
