AM2+

My folks recently bought a new system which i built for them, which has an ASUS AM2+ supporting board. The CPU they chose (for price) was an AMD 64 x2 6000+

I have been looking at some of the quad core AMD's for a cpu upgrade

I take it that would be compatible? Last time i built a System You couldn't even get dual core !!!!!

It'll work assuming you have BIOS 1003 or later, that was released back in December 2008. It's worth updating to the latest BIOS regardless though.

Yeah it should work . All you do in most cases is update your BIOS, which will allow you to use a AM2+ processor. I did this on my Crosshair mo'board & installed a AMD 9950 Quad Core 2.6ghz & its been fine.
