Amp cooling

If i want to build a false floor, for my amp, a bit like this

How do i go about cooling it? I will only have a small raised section of the floor, not the whole boot.

I will probably use fans, would it be a good idea to put a fan in the floor, poking out to suck air in, or have one in between the 2 layers of mdf of the floor,

Any help or install pics will be appreachated greatly

Thanks

Alright mate, i would put 2 fans either side of the amp(s) one pushing over the amp and the other pulling. You could do what i was gonna do and put the fan in the false floor. This is feasible but would take a lot of work and would be easily damaged without adequete protection.

Wiring it would be quite easy aswell, just run the power from the amp and have a intermediate switch on ur dash or something, but dont forget to turn it off when u leave the car.

Need anymore help, just pm me, hope u liked my install ;)

doesnt the remote cable to turn the amp on run at 12 volts? ... you could run the fan from that... it uses mear milliamps... also you could buy some Coolermaster 80mm fans with the thermal probe... I have these in my computers... when it heats up the fan speeds up.... so its not running full speed all the time... saves a lot on noise levels... they are pretty inexpensive...

how much is pretty inexpensive? sounds like a good idea Gengar, i have heard that you have to use a relay? but thats if you dont want a switch you have to turn on,

Also what would be the best way to get it to glow blue under the persex? would little LEDs do it, or mini tubes?

Yeah i would actually go with Lockys idea. Get a fan with thermal probe as suggested, and wire up the neons to the underside of the false floor. This way you dont see the neon tube but u get that really nice glow effect. The other option is to power the neon not by switch but to the boot light switch. I was goin to do this but it would come on everytime i opened the boot which seemed a bit stoopid. As a result i just installed some switches in my dash, one for neons and one for fans...looks really good actually!

Instead of neons though, u could go for cold cathode tubes. Same sort of effect as neon but pulsates to the sound of the music. Effective, brighter and cheaper than neons, available from Maplins...

Yup all this stuff can be bought from any computer moddin site... I have coldcathodes in my comp too.. they are defo a good idea as they dont give out any heat... I think the fans are about £10 each at the most... and the neons are around £9.99...

Try http://www.overclock.co.ukwww.overclock.co.uk or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/http://www.overclockers.co.uk/

you can even have blue Neon fans if you wish... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Coolermaster_fans.htmlhttp://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Coolermaster_fans.html

Im actually on lunch break at the mo so I got to go... Ill try to find a site selling the coolermaster fans later on tonight... or you usually find them on ebay...

Dont go for Delta or ThermalTake as they are very loud...

Locky is there anywhere in the UK that sell these. If so where.

Thanks

Hi there dynamic... Ok you can get the coolermasters from http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=281http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=281 its the coolermaster Smart fan for £5.29

The other alternative if you want a few more CFMs of air is to go for thermaltakes.. but they are a LOT louder and more expensive. http://www.tekheads.co.uk/site/product.do?productId=601108http://www.tekheads.co.uk/site/product.do?productId=601108 or the lit one http://www.tekheads.co.uk/site/product.do?productId=601188http://www.tekheads.co.uk/site/product.do?productId=601188 the thermaltakes run a lot faster and therefor are louder... but then again it depends on how hot the amp gets... it runs full speed at 50 degrees.I went for the Coolermasters as I knew even if they were running full speed they would be quiet.

You can get some very nice laser cut grills from http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=354http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=354

Cold cathode lighting kits are here http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=278http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=278

And EL string here http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=355http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=355

Also on another note.. if you want appliques for your perspex amp covers look at http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=353http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=353

Hope this helps!!
