if i have some 13cm speakers in the front (38rms 150W max) and some different 13cm speakers in the back (45rms 130w max) then will an amp which has 4 x 50W RMS and 4 x 100W max be ok or will it damage the speakers?
i think i might forget the amp now. I have been told that i should be able to just run the speakers off the head unit. Will that be alright? because the headunit says 4 x 50W and the RMS is something like 19w i think. Do the speakers get damaged by being underpowered?
You wont damage the speakers unless you try to drive them beyond the point of distortion.
That can be the speakers distorting because they are overpowered by a big amp, or the head unit distorting because its being asked to drive over-rated speakers too hard.
A lot of the numbers are meaningless with car Hi-Fi, its just used to attract the customer.
Look for the RMS ratings, they are the only ones worth anything.
