so i want 2 buy an amp but wen i look on the net i see 2 channel 4 channel mono channel amps! what does it all mean! i just want an amp what do i buy! lol

  v.cheapferrari
mono - good for running 1 sub - has one channel therefore only one thing can be run from this
mono bridgable - good for running 2 subs - has two channels so two things can be run from this but can also use just one of the channels (hense mono)
2 channel - good for running a set of comps - has 2 channels, similar to mono bridgable
4 channel - good for running a set of comps & coaxials
5/6 channel - i thin you get the picture, lol

some1 correct me if im barking up the wrong tree

what are you needing the amp for??

  Polo + Micra
you need a channel per speaker/set

mono amps are usually for subs and can normally run two subs easily

2 channel amps can normally run a Bridge tied load @ 4 ohms so good for a single sub

Da

  Less
2 channel, 2 outputs for speakers etc
4 channel, 4 outputs for speakers etc
mono amp, one output for eg sub.

  Polo + Micra
either get a mono amp and a 2 channel or

a 4 channel if the sub is a 4 ohm one

  v.cheapferrari
kk
dink means either get a mono amp (1 channel) for the sub & then get a 2 channel amp for the speakers (as there are 2 speakers)
OR
get 1 amp, in this case a 4 channel ( 1 channel for the sub & other two for the speakers) in this case the sub will have to run at 4ohm

what is your budget for the amp(s), sub & speakers?? we may be able to help you out this way, & recommend some good stuff

  Polo + Micra
well if you get a 4 channel on and use channel 1+ 2 for the comps and bridge 3and 4 for a sub but they normally only bridge into 4 ohms

u say use 1+2 for the comps. wud that be 1 for the 13cm speakers and 2 for the tweeters? and then 3+4 combined for 1 sub?

oh rite so rite side speaker and tweeter on 1 channel etc. and sub on 2 combined channels?

er as for a budget not 2 sure i dnt want 2 buy frm the bottom end of the market as i wud think i wudnt get much quailty. y do u ask?

  v.cheapferrari
ye so the comps run off 1 + 2 channels & the sub can be connected to both 3+4channels (bridging this is called)

just so i could try & recommend some gear within your budget thats all

oh rite well to b honest i dnt want 2 spend much but i want soemthign that is half decent. mayb 150 quid? or wud i get a s**t sub and amp for that?

  v.cheapferrari
for £150 you want both sub & amp??

if so, here is sumwhere to start

pioneer
alpinie
JBL
Infintity

they all have mono amps, 12" sub, wiring kit & box

then you just need a set of comps & an amp to power it (with the comps, an amp isnt essential as you can run them straight from the headunit, but with an amp, it makes it sound much better)

what headunit have you got??

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
I would deffo go for the jbl but instead of the 75.2 amp get the 75.4 then you could run the comps from the amp as well as the sub

  v.cheapferrari
trutru, my bad, i was chattin shIte, lol

the infinity would be the second choice for me, but there isnt realy that much between the JBL package & the infinity

abit off the topic, but are infinity & JBL related?? i heard this ages ago from a friend but thought nothing of it, then on the JBL website, i saw alot of infinity installs, so is this true??

  v.cheapferrari
cheers

a m8 of mine was trying to recommend me some subs (when i knew nothing about ICE) & was saying JBL are amazin. when i told him i liked the look of the infinity subs (PERFECT 12 VQ) he laughed at me & said that infinity were rubish, lol, dont you just love people like that:eek:

  Polo + Micra
lol i've got a pair of the perfect 12 vq's sweet as f**k

giving the 600wrms each scored me 141.9 dB on an RTA

  v.cheapferrari
they look very good subs

are they aimed at SQ or streetbass??

i was/still am in a way considering them for my car

ye ur right u cnt, i was thinking the £150 was for the amp & sub

imo it is alot more efficient to run comps off their own amp really, overheating can occur if you have too many channels at near max power.

the infinity & jbl are great packages

you cud do what chromeclio said & get the jbl 4 channel instead of the mono in the package

if you contact caraudiosecurity & tell them that you want the 4 channel instead of the mono, they will do this no problem, might cost you an extra £15 at a guess, worth doing suppose on your budget

for the comps go for these - rainbow

forget what i said, go for this - jbl deal you get

sub
4 channel amp
components
box
wiring kit

good deal for the money

yeh that looks like the 1! it has it all for 200 quid and its jbl so must b half decent aswell as it having a 4 channel amp.

How is using a separate amp more effiecent??

Dink - I hope to get mine a term-lab soon hoping for 148 or so, i guess youi got that score on a sine wave?

  v.cheapferrari
two things are better than 1

if you have a 4 channel amp running 1 sub & comps at 75% - 85% max power then it would surely get hotter thus decreasing it performance (it may even cut out due to the over heating - ive seen it happen)

  Polo + Micra
yeah it was a sweep from about 80Hz down to about 20Hz.

yeah should get that with a pair of RE xxx's:D

you'd be surpised how amps work they have a better THD the nearer you get to full output.

i'd say go with one amp they are designed to run at 100% output 24/7

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
It won't over heat unless its under a false floor or poorly vented. Why would they make a product if it can't do what it says on the tin.

For sure 2 is better than 1 but why get 2 when 1 could do the job?

Dink - yeah i know i should do but when you get that high DBs it gets hard to get that loud without walling
