Annoying gears help

  172 cup TT

Hi all,

After my 172 cup was in renault last week for some new pads i now have problems with selecting gears.

the problems are: I cant put it into reverse without it crunching.. no matter how slow or fast i do it... i also cant change up gears when driving quite fast without it crunching i.e when reving to the redline and from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd etc... i have to consiously wait about a second before i change...it seems so the revs go back down a bit, quite annoying... Any ideas what this is?.. hope its not a gear box going. .. also, dont worry, im telling renault about it as they seem to have screwed it!

Thanks all - Floodie

i have no idea mate.. if it could possibly be that then cheers.. i thought that if gears crunched it would be gear box related(oil, linkages etc)... if the clutch slipped, wouldnt bite/release etc then it would erm be the clutch!.. sorry @ my simple logic.. thx tho - its a possibility

had a problem in the kitcar that sounds similar and we had to adjust the clutch cable with a few spacers, if it is then itll feel like your not pushing the clutch down enough?

Dragging clutch, dodgy linkage or just a broken box then. But why would it happen after just changing the (brake?) pads? It is Renault though I guess - worst dealers on planet earth :p

ah great thanks for all your help.. so it could be a "stretched" clutch cable or something pretty simple?..

Yeh, have NO idea but it defo werent like this before it went in! :(

Id take it straight back down and kick off to f**k at the service manager.....

Did they test drive it after fitting the pads? I know most dealerships do!

I wish i could mate.. I work in the oposite direction to my dealer and work such bloody long hours - the only op i have to do this is this saturday!!.. ill let you know how i get on.. always seems to come out with a new damn problem after being in!... i worry sometimes that i drive it TOO hard and "ooh, maybe i shouldnt be so tough on it - bet no one else drives like this"... you ever think like that? - lol

sounds like your clutch cable has stretched to much or adjusted itself wrong...

try readjusting the cab.e, not sure how much of a problem it is on the new clios but on the valver/williams when u put a new clutch cable in it takes about 500 miles until its adjusted correctly. in that time u have serious problems selecting 1st 2nd and reverse.

worth a try.
