Annoying Norton anti-virus problem :(

Hi, geeks. I need some help.

My poor girlfriend's Norton anti-virus has expired and a window pops up about every 10seconds to remind her about it, and basically trying to get her to pay to renew.

Is there a way this can be disabled?

We are not going to pay for Norton again, as I'll install her something free like AVG.

Any advice appreciated.

Options, disable baloon tips/pop-ups i'd imagine.

Norton is fking annoying, i'd actually prefer to have PC-AIDS than have that leaking away 50% of my RAM.
