Another car won't start thread (immobiliser) HELP!!

  Impreza Wagon
Immobiliser light is flashing like mad and engine won't turn over with my normal key. I tried my spare and the STOP and immobiliser light stayed on constantly, engine turned over then shut off. Just disconnecting the battery for 20mins to reset the ecu and see what happens....

Oh and when locking it now beeps 4 times??

Spare key is now working ok, I've not tried the normal key since. Could it be the battery in the key?

If it were one of my cars in my workshop I'd slap it on the CLIP to confirm that key '1' is un-recognised and if that was the case i'd then try re-coding it. If i'm honest though (going off previous experience and your description of the fault) I'd say you're gonna need a new key. Its been a week for it though as i've done two UCH's on Clio II's and they're not the cheapest of parts to replace.

What's the going rate for a new key? Would Renault 'test' the key for free?

LoL, Renault won't do a thing for free other than tell you to "book it in"

Keys are around £90 and then another £40 to code it up although Renault have recently announced a special part number for key sets which makes getting two new keys a lot cheaper. I could get two new key cards for my Laguna for £176 coded which really isn't that bad.
