another engine noise thread....

Well my 172 is making the dreaded noisy diesel sound. My first thoughts were obviously dephaser pulley but after reading up on here I'm not so sure now. is it possible that a lifter has gone? The annoying 'tick' is there throughout the Rev range, whereas am I right in thinking with the dephaser, it subsides as revs pass 2kish?

How bad it the ticking? i've noticed the injectors tick alot

Its quite bad mate, I wouldn't say it was an injector, sounds quite 'metallic'?
Do injectors get louder with age?
