Another engine question!

Real quick one Guys.

How much would you lot be charging to change an engine over (excluding belts)

Also how long does it take approximately?

Edit: whats the book time in hours? How long does it take in relaity?

Depends how good you are with your spanners and sockets

are you getting any help, or doing all the work yourself?

Personally if it was a mate id charge him the price of a few beers..

I probs could do it myself but id rather leave it with my mates then at least it'l be okay!

He just said get some qoutes and let me know what garages want.

putting it back in is the t**t, with all the fluids, air con, PAS, water etc.

Nope dont need to its a pretty new engine.

May be beneficial to do fanbelt while its out? fanbelts got 30k behind it

So i need everything that in my list correct?

Most garages charge around £40ish + to re-gas the aircon.. try some industrial air con places, a place near me does it for £20 cash in hand

Coolent will be about £25 ish

PAS fluid

Possibly brake fluid?

then your oil and filter..

so thats over £100 there, with good oil

Not quite the same but my on my old MK1 RSi it took 7hrs with a ramp...

In that time me and my dad drained all fluids, removed the engine, fitted new clutch, gave engine a quick inspection/clean while out, refitted the engine, also fitted 2 new engine mounts and all new the filters/fluids.

Done!

Matt i would definatly change all your belts while the engine is out... it will save you some serious money come your next service!

No point doing Cambelt only got 15k on it 05 engine! I will deffo do fanbelt though!

Been quoted £250 labour. (excluding consumables I think) also get the keep the old engine so I can strip and refurb it

Any opinions? (this is a pro mechanic btw) Believe my mate will do it cheaper

Should do the clutch aswell he reckons.

Thats a good price dude, you could strip your old engine or sell it complete, to get some of the fitting expensises back?

Would the "pro mechanic" offer any warrenty on his work? that may be the safer option?

Not a clue I phoned him today and he gave me that price.

I was thinking that refurb the old one and sell it on? Will be a piece of piss to work on the engine once its out the motor!

yeh will be easy to work on dude, replce what ever needs it and give it a good clean up

you say the engine is out of an 05 plate so 3 yrs old another 2 yrs it will need a belt. if you do it early say at 4 yrs, would it not be alot easyier to do it now?
