Another gearbox!!!

Right i love my 172 to bits as many people on this site do, at this moment in time i hate mine! my gearbox has failed for the second time, first time it was my fault i admit it, having a bit to much fun at santa pod, i had my recon box fitted at renault just over 2 years ago and i have only covered 18k since, do you think there is any come back on that? i can select all gears and there is no drive, leave it in neutral and rev it and the speedo goes up? does anyone have a gearbox that they would sell? or is anyone still in contact with matt black?

Sure its not the driveshaft clip or similar? Sounds unlikely the geabox would go and still be able to select gears.

sounds like the diff circlip has come out or broke - its an easy enough fix

But the speed going up with the revs in neutral?

Its common enough circuip breaks in them and the car doesn't move.

You can change them with and and box in quite easy it can be a pian sometimes though as it takes loads of tryies to gte right.

Only cheap the circlips.
