Any common suspension problems on 172

172 Mk1. Been feeling more slippery than usual round corners ... been surprised a couple of times on left-handers when its lost it and oversteered. Seems even bumpier than usual on the road, and perhaps tramlining a bit more. No uneven tyre wear on relatively new tyres.

Of course more than likely all in my mind since once you start thinking something might be up with your car you start noticing things more than usual!! Does mean Im not enjoying myself so much since Im pushing it less that I used to ...

So question is: any recognized common suspension problem on 172s? Reckon Ive read various people mentioning having dampers replaced. However forum search showed up nothing in particular.

Any tips on "testing" my suspension. Tried bouncing on corners like an MOT-tester but car hardly budges on any corner

lol, bounce the car.. and if it keeps bouncing for a bit afterwards the shock is gone.. if it stops bouncing quickly and settles its proably alright, but do a visual inspection for signs of leakage.

Reletively new tyres? How new?

when I got new tyres on my mk1 172 they were initially not very grippy, but the more I drove them the better they got... now that they are fully bedded in / roughened up / whatever they are simply awesome.

Take your car to a speedy / quikfit / wherever and have them test your suspension...they do it electronically and will tell you if you need new shocks
