Any of you guys want to make me a basic website?

Hello

I am currently running this website:

www.lukebroad.com

It's basically just somewhere for me to put all my photos, and I normally hotlink them through to here. For example car meets etc.

What I want is a more professional front page, and a gallery which displays the best of my photography. I would also like a bit of a blog on there, where I can link to my albums which I already have (see more info below).

I would then like the part of my website which I have done "hidden" so I can still use it as my own photobucket sort of thing, but people can't view it unless i let them (i.e posting it on here) Its pissing me off because I keep getting people leaving spam comments on my images selling viagra and shite, and i'm sick of having to moderate them via e-mail :(

I don't want this doing for free, and I will pay you for your expertise!

PM me if you can help :)

Luke.

Never looked at Joomla, but I did have a play with wordpress and I didn't get on with it at all.

Not really sure mate. just couldn't get on with it :S. I found it easier to create what I already have from scratch than mess about with word press.

The main problem I found with it is you can't chose where you want your images on the page as they just follow templates. I know there will be a way around this but I couldn't be arsed so I just whipped out iWeb lol.

iWeb is nice, but it's flexibility is somewhat limited.

What do you mean you can't choose where the image is placed, do you mean within the text?

iWeb does work wonders with that aspect, but it's really different.

Wordpress is fantastic, specially as free.

Hmm. I may give word press a second chance, especially for the 'blog' side of my site.

I definitely want a new front page creating however, as I lack the creativity to make a unique and professional looking one (i was never a very arty person).

With regards to word press, am I right in thinking I can use it solely for blogging?

the site doesnt look bad as it is Luke

It should be pretty simple to set up what you want. Ive forgotten everything about making websites.

Your forum looks interesting! lol

LOL Sarah.

I was curious as to how forums run etc so decided to have a blast at setting up my own. It's nothing serious mind but I learnt a lot from doing that actually.

Have you thought about Drupal?

I used WordPress to start with, and migrated to that.

Tried out Joomla as well, but I couldn't get on with that either.

Drupal is good, mines done in it: www.katiegluyas.co.uk
although still a work in progress it's easy to get something to stay playing with.

Lots of help for it on the web, and modules make adding things like pictures and stuff easy, only thing on my website not released as a module is the twitter feed if i remember correctly, which was just coded up to do the job

Thanks for all the advice, however I have got a member on here sorting me out a bespoke set up that I am after so hopefully I should have a pretty professional looking website :approve:

I will update this thread when its done

I would have another go at wordpress. My blog is my first attempt with wordpress, it's not too hard when you get to grips with it.
I just found a nice template then customised it.

That's where I struggled with it Dan, customizing the template. I could never get my images where I wanted to put them :(

I am definitely giving it another go though for my blog. Hopefully be able to get some tips off of you photography wise whilst on the trip!

Yeh Dave said that yesterday lol. You're welcome to ride with me for a bit, Dave told me yesterday that I'm the only car without a passenger!! I'm on my own for all those miles!!! :dapprove:
