Any thoughts on window tints for Cup

  E36 323i coupe

I have a blue Cup as many of you know...

I am thinking about having the windows tinted... but what shade should I go for? Have thought about blue, or maybe silver, rather than the common black/smoke. What do people think?

And how much *should* this cost me?

its gonna b like 180 or more i rekon. u should look into legality of silver and blue tints. I know for a fact that ur not really supposed to tint the front windos beyond 30% but a lot of people dont bother worrying about it and ae fine. black would look good in my opinion

or you could have a try yourself. I think its 20 quid a roll in halfords. Its not as easy as it looks to do it yourself. under 200 quid for a pro job though.

I paid £205 for my OLD SHAPE clio to be tinted.. its a bit more for the new shape as its more difficult to tint the curved back window.. and if you go for the different films, there could be more ontop for that too.

Reflective Silver or Light Blue would look really good I reckon but the old bill take a dim view of it unfortunately. They put it on the back windows of their dog cars round essex, but they seem to have this thing about the driver being unable to be seen from outside, even if the tint is within the legal limits. I want silver on mine but my car attracts enough attention as it is without something blatantly dodgy on it!

I have checked with the home office/department of transport re: the legality of silver tints and I think they are legal as long as they let the required amount of light through - the only thing you could really be done for is along the lines of it being dangerous as the reflection of the sun etc could blind other drivers. So side windows should be fine and back windows too on a clio as they are all quite vertical, but Id have to go for a normal tint on the rear window of my escort.

You could always give your local station a ring and ask to speak to Traffic to see what they say! Theyll probably say no so then you can ask for them to find the legislation to prove this decision - better to do it first than be arguing with BiB on the side of the road as they demand you rip the film off while they watch, like the did to Essex_Lad!

easiest thing is to call a local window tinters, or call a top tinters like pentagon auto tint, they are expensive £300 but they can provide 100% legal tints and give u a certificate with it, they do coloured and silver tints, also the silver to black fade tints which look good, and they only do legal tints.

Pentagon in Watford quoted £250 for my 03 plate 172.....

I had it done locally, for convenience for £199

The back window was done as one piece

Id go with pentagon to be honest, never seen a bad job done by them

One word of warning thou, I had a quote from both Brimingham branch and Watford and there was a diffrence of £100

Watford being cheaper

Security fil is a waste of time. Costs more to replace and if they want to get in, they will...
