Anybody know of a good place to take me knackard clio?

Hi, i think my clio needs a new engine putting in, or perhaps a head rebuild, im not sure yet. Does anyone know of a good cheap mechanic that perhaps works from home or somthing, that would be able to look at it, tell me what needs doing and then fix it.

Thanks

James

Im in the midlands by the way, but willing to send car further to right person.

Im from Warwickshire myself, but as i said im prepared to get it towed anywhere really, just want someone who isn't going to cost me a fortune and comes recommended by people on a forum dedicated to clios. Ive tried a few garages round here but they just scratch their heads, i also failed to mention its a 2002 172 clio. Thanks

Either BTM performance in Birmingham or EJM preperation in Alcester.

I'd go with BTM (Birmingham, near the airport) or MickPM on here, who owns Diamond Motors in Nottingham.

Both come highly recomended on here.

Thanks for all the quick replies, thats the kind of knowledge i was looking for :) Birmingham and Alcester are very close to me.

Sir_Dave what sort of prices am i looking at?

Cheers

Fred @ BTM seems the obvious choice as you are in that neck of the woods, or like mentioned already Mick at Diamond seems to have a good grasp on these cars too.

Mick just got his official individual RenaultSport specialist status too. But notts is a trek from warks.

As Sir dave said. I would just source another engine personally. There are normally a few floating about. Then all you need is for someone to fit it all in for you. Obviously might be a few other bits needed round the sides, depends on what's wrong with yours and what needs replacing really. Fred seems an ideal solution as he's not too far away from you.

At a quick glance there is one here for £300: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...Rotrex-Yozza-EC1-Coilovers-Seats-Rollcage-etc

Cant understand people telling him to buy and fit a new engine, when he doesnt even know for certain what the problem is yet.

Could be a loose spark plug making it low on compression or something for example, I'd get a proper diagnosis as a first step!

Don't go to someone cheap, you pay for what you get. I went to a driveway mechanic to get my cambelt done, ended up doing a s**t job and he completely ruined the engine, now i need a new one. Thats a £500 job turned into a £2000 job :( I only bought the car for £2600! Go to a renault specialist that will have the exact tools for the f4r engine.
